pirokp Posted July 17, 2009 Report Posted July 17, 2009 Hi,This site is awesome, thank you to everyone! I am new to this message board, and I look forward to posting my many winning bids. :) I am going to Priceline a hotel in Chicago for 3 nights, 7/25 - 7/28. I know I should have done this earlier, but I guess I kept hoping for some great deal. My husband and I are looking for a downtown hotel, and we will not have a car. We would like a 4-star, or 3-star if we have to. Any suggestions on what amount I should bid?I am not sure which area on Priceline would be the best, I have never been to Chicago. I will look through the rest of the boards for great information.Thank you all for your help!
AaronJB Posted July 17, 2009 Report Posted July 17, 2009 Welcome to the site! :)What would be your budget per night? Please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links when you are ready to book.
pirokp Posted July 18, 2009 Author Report Posted July 18, 2009 Hi,Thank you for replying! Ideally I would love $65-$85, but would go up to $100. Would I be better off splitting my 3 nights into 2 priceline bids? It seems the Saturday night is the expensive night. Would I get a better deal doing a Saturday night bid, and then a separate Sunday and Monday night bid? Am I making any sense? From reading these boards it seems that we might like the NMA area? We will not have a car and enjoy walking to restaurants, bars in the evening. Thanks for your help!
thereuare Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 I do think you'll likely save by SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, but you'll also likely have to go over your $100 budget for Saturday nite. (and can't say for certain, but i'm guessing at the average of all your nites may excellede $100 by a bit)Using HOTWIRE has a back-up (realizing that the offers there can disappear at any time) this could be a potential fallback:7/26-7/28: bid on PRICELINE, you should be able to have a winning bid for less than $100, take any difference and add that to your bid for Saturday nite (ie- if successful at $90 for Sun+Mon... try up to $120 for Saturday nite)7/27: bid on PRICELINE up to maximum bid, if rejected, HOTWIRE has a 3.5* in the LOOP zone for $119/nite (which unfortunately has not yet been identified)AaronJB may have some other ideas/options.Thoughts?Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Le tus know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. pirokp Posted July 18, 2009 Author Report Posted July 18, 2009 Thank you for your help!!!I am going to first try bidding for all three nights, up to $90 (or is that too low), in the NMA area. Then if I am unsuccessful I will split the bid, trying first to bid on the sunday and monday nights, then will do the Sat. night.Does that strategy sound good?
pirokp Posted July 18, 2009 Author Report Posted July 18, 2009 I bid $90 for the North Michigan Ave - River North Area for all three nights (7/25 - 7/28) My price was declined, but I was told if I increased my price by $22 I would have a good chance of it being accepted. I did not bid again.
thereuare Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 Well at this point you 'know' that you'll likely be successful at $112 or less. Are you willing to bid higher than the $90 you already have? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
