Hi guys,

Seen lots of successful 4* bids for these areas so thought I'd try my luck for 9th-13th September.

Have tried a couple of times using the re-bidding thing but no success so far.

Bidding Strategy

1. MTW 4* $110

2. add CHELSEA $115

3. add UPPER EAST SIDE $118

4. add MADISON SQ $125

5. add MTE $130

Closed and reopened browser and started again

1 MTW $130

2. add MTE $140

3. add CHELSEA $149

4. add BROOKLYN $154

5. add LONG ISLAND $160

6. add UPPER EAST SIDE $165

7. add MADISON SQUARE $170

Can see loads of 4* in MTW and MTE accepted for much less..

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Good morning and welcome to the site.

Rates are date-specific. If the city is busier on your dates (convention, season, etc. etc.), rates will be higher. One cannot go on what other people have gotten unless they have something for the exact same dates. My guess is that an acceptable 4* bid for Midtown is not that much higher (based on rates, I'd be surprised if $180-190 wasn't accepted), but you have already gone quite high at $170.

Personally, I'd either:

1. Wait it out and try again in a week, bidding as you did up to $170.

2. Try again up to $185-190, but I wouldn't go any higher than that.

3. Try to bid lower for a 3.5*

Thanks for the tips Aaron.

Someone has a booking at the Westin for $169 for that week but it looks like they booked about 9 months ago.

$170 was higher than I budgeted but I got carried away hence am hesitant to go higher than that.

REally want Westin, Sheraton Towers or any of the MTW 4*'s as they all sound pretty good.

If I lower my star rating, I'd be worried I'd get something I don't really want as pretty set on 4*.

PS - I love PRICELINE AND betterbidding :)

This is a busier than usual, ane therefore expensive, time in NYC, but with the hotel market generally weak i'd be a little patient and try bidding this every 3-4 days or so.
