worldtraveller Posted July 19, 2009 Author Report Posted July 19, 2009 Ending up going with priceline for this one. Bidding was tough - seems like prices are quite high for this date. All bidding was done over 2 days - combination of 4* and 3.5* bids.Started bidding at $70 for a 4*Downtown: $70, 75, 80, 83, 85 (counteroffer of $22 with this rejection), 87 (another counteroffer of $22), 90, 93 - all bids rejected.Stopped bidding on the 4* when I reached $93 - Instead, tried for a 3.5*Downtown at that point using the following bids: 62, 65, 70, 73, 77, 80, 83, 85, 87 (counteroffer of $22 with this rejection) - all bids rejected. At this point, went back to bidding for a 4* (figured if I was going to pay $90+, might as well try for a 4*) - bid on 4*Downtown with $95 and finally won the Hyatt Regency Vancouver (4*Downtown) for $95 ($118.32 with taxes) - one night stay, Sept. 14. Used your PRICELINE link each time of course!Just wondering, anyone notice if bidding for a one night stay tends to be more expensive than a stay of multiple nights? (I'm guessing that there's no real pattern and it's all based on inventory in the end?)Thanks again for this board's help!
yellowdog Posted July 19, 2009 Report Posted July 19, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding :) Just wondering, anyone notice if bidding for a one night stay tends to be more expensive than a stay of multiple nights? (I'm guessing that there's no real pattern and it's all based on inventory in the end?)Yes, it's all about the inventory in the long run. But there's a few factors depending on the day you're bidding for also. For example, you might get a lower average price if you bid for Fri-Sun than just the Saturday night for some hotels etc. And you will find exceptions for diffrent zones.Have a pleasant stay.Yellowdog.
