worldtraveller Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Looking for 1 room for 3 adults on hotwire for a 2-night stay, Sept 12-14. Results are as follows:3* Downtown Seattle Center Space Needle - $99/nightFitness Center, Restaurant, Hi-Speed Internet3.5* Downtown Pike Place - $129/nightFitness Center, Restaurant, Business Center, Hi-Speed Internet4* Downtown Pike Place - $139/nightFitness Center, Restaurant, Business Center, Hi-Speed InternetAny help to ID these hotels would be greatly appreciated as always!A few other questions I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on: While browsing through Expedia, I've noticed that many of the 4* downtown hotels charge $30+/day for parking. Do the lower-rated hotels tend to charge less for parking? I seem to be noticing that the 3* hotels charge around $10-$15/day for parking. This is important as we'll have a car with us, and so parking is something we'll have to keep in mind for the bottom line.I suspect that I could get a better deal bidding through priceline. However, I'm faced with the dilemma of needing a room with 2 beds (3 people). I was thinking that even if we end up with a room with a single bed, we could ask the hotel to supply us with a rollaway or a cot - and even with the additional cost of something like this, booking through priceline for 2 might still come out cheaper than booking on hotwire for 3. I'm assuming of course, that rollaway/cot availability wouldn't be an issue in these large 4* downtown hotels. But then again, maybe I shouldn't assume this. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help!
AaronJB Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 4* Downtown/Pike Place - possible match for either the Sheraton or Westin.3.5* Downtown/Pike Place - likely match for the Crowne Plaza.3* Downtown/Space Needle - this hotel has not yet been reported to the board/ID'd, although the Holiday Inn Seattle Center looks to be a good possibility, as it is showing up on the Vacation Package side of the service with these amenities and would appear to fall within this zone. If this is the HI, parking is listed as $10 per day (self-park) on the hotel website.Parking unfortunately has gone up for hotels in every major city - $50 for parking is not unheard of in Chicago or NYC. While lower rated hotels generally do tend to charge less for parking, it does certainly vary from hotel-to-hotel, and there's no way to guarantee which hotel you get via PRICELINE or HOTWIRE.You could bid for a hotel on PRICELINE, but there's no guarantee that the hotel will be able to supply a second bed - they may be willing to work with you on two beds, but there's also definitely the possibility they would want an "upgrade fee" for a room w/2 beds or simply say no to two beds. They may charge for a rollaway. When you search for 3 adults via HOTWIRE, at least you are guaranteed some form of bedding for all members of your party. Please use the site's HOTWIRE link to start your purchase, or please let us know more details - zones of interest? - if you would like us to suggest how to best approach PRICELINE.Please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links.
worldtraveller Posted July 16, 2009 Author Report Posted July 16, 2009 Thanks so much for your help!I decided to not take the chance with needing the extra bed, so I went with HOTWIRE. Using your HOTWIRE link, I booked the 3* Downtown/Space Needle property as it was closest to my budget. As you predicted, it did turn out to be the Holiday Inn Seattle Center! To confirm, the amenities listed were: Fitness Center, Restaurant & Hi-Speed Internet.Looks like the hotel is in a great area - close to some major attractions (e.g. the Space Needle) and not too far away from Pike Place/Downtown area. Thanks again for your help and thoughts - much appreciated!
