Hi...

I am a single mom traveling with my 11 yr old son to Boston July 23, 2009 for 4 nights.... (Taking him to Fenway, historical sites, etc etc etc) -- I have read the forum postings about bidding and the prices are amazing! I want to try this, but I am soooo nervous that I will get a location that is unsafe, etc. I am also planning to get around the city via the T - not renting a car, so locations close to T stops are important. I am also unsure of the "best" location(s) to select to begin the bidding process to be close to most everything. Am i better off with Hotwire which is a more "sure thing" or bidding on Priceline? Any help out there would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thank you and go Red Sox! :) :) :o :)

Welcome to the site.

There are benefits to using both HOTWIRE and PRICELINE. With HOTWIRE, one can make an "educated guess" as to which hotels are showing. However, the service is generally at least a little more expensive than PRICELINE, where you have to be more flexible about where you stay.

What would be your budget per night for hotel?

Thank you for using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchase.

Thanks for your help ... perhaps I should clarify -- I THINK i would prefer to stay downtown, seems to be close to everything and T Stops are abundant and close by... I have researched Hotwire and based on your helpful info on this forum - I see what i believe is the Oynx for $127 per night. However, I have seen postings on the Priceline forum for hotels, esp in the Copley area, from $90-115 per night via the bidding process. I am not super familiar with these areas - so, which is better for a mom and son weekend in Boston - Downtown? Copley? Either? I was about to start a bid on priceline for a 4* at $90 per night in the financial/downtown area -- but, chickened out. LOL... (Newbie nerves) - I would really LIKE to spend no more than $100 per night (less would be great!) - and I figured a 4* would be more of a sure thing of a good hotel..... advice? Thank you!

Either the Quincy Market or Copley zones should be fine for the avarage user, but you should check the 'known' hotels reported in each zone to see if they would work well for your needs.

Let us know once you decide if you want to go with HOTWIRE or PRICELINE... of the former let us know the amenities associated with the hotel you're consdiering; if PRICELINE confirm the zones you're willing to accept, and we'll advise accordingly.

Success!

I tried my hand at bidding on PRICELINE after seeing the post on here for the Sheraton at $75/night in Copley. I went for a lower bid first, folloowing much of the same bidding strategy as the previous poster. I first bid 3.5* Copley at $68/night - rejected.... then I added the Harbor area with Copley and bid $73 - again rejected -- so, I waited the 24 hours and bid *3.5 Copley at $75 and won the same bid -- at the Sheraton (the amenities are exactly was listed in your hotel list - made it easy to identify)! I am thrilled - this hotel is centrally located to most everything and accessible to the T, restaurants and is in a safe area -- thank you soooooo much for all the info on here -- it REALLY made the difference!
