jacksonjohn Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 Great site! Thank you. When I used the link provided for PRICELINE in Colchester area for 2*s, I see a Quality Inn for $89 and Hampton Inn for $126. I am just wondering if I were to bid in that area, what are my chances of getting Hampton Inn over Quality Inn?I am looking for 3 nights from August 3rd to 6th and looking to spend about $60.P.s I would like to created my own new thread, however, I am not provided with a button/option of any sort to do so? Am I missing something? Thanks for your help.Regards.
thereuare Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! If you look on the bottom right corner of this (or any) post on the board, as well as the top right corner, there are buttons to add a reply OR start a new topic.Start by reading the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ regaerding usnig the "retail" version of PRICELINE to determine what you will get when bidding (short answer: don't do it)You need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the minimum star rating (or higher) that you select. If you're trying to target, or avoid, a specific property then HOTWIRE may be a better, yet slightly more expensive, option since you can take an educated guess as to what you may receive based upon the amenities shown before your purchase.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. jacksonjohn Posted July 15, 2009 Author Report Posted July 15, 2009 Thanks for the detailed help.I understand that the idea with priceline, I will have to accept what I get. With that in mind, I would like to have some idea as to what I might get.Since your post, I have read some more and looked at both priceline and hotwire again. While searching Burlington VT, I noticed a Residence Inn in Williston VT. This is a 2.5* for $169. Based on Priceline retail site, this is the only 2.5* in this zone. Here is what I would like to try in hopes to get this hotel and will put up with consequence if I don't get this specific hotel. I would appreciate your feedback.Bid $65 for the Wiliiston Zone for 2.5*If rejected, Bid $70 and include Colchester zone as it only offers 1* and 2*if rejected, Bid $75 and include Montpelier zone as it too only offers 1* and 2*.What do you think? One thing I also notice when I click on Williston from the 'name your price' page, it shows a 3* as a best deal. However, when I search for hotes in 3 stars in on retail page I don't see one. What am I missing? Now, I also searched Howwire, but it seems that it does not show Williston specifically, rather part of Burlington, which does not work for me.

What am I missing?Did you read the related link in the PRICELINE FAQ regarding using the "retail" hotels offered to determine what you will get thru the name your own price side of their site, as it seems like you either didn't or don't believe the info as you've still used that as the basis of your bidding strategy. There was just a post earlier today where the user was "surprised" to get a hotel that didn't appear on the 'retail' side of their site.If you still want to continue may be able to improve upon your bidding, what is your maximum bid for this stay? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. It came out to be $115 with taxes including breakfast.Once again, thanks for all the help.
