We have four adults in our family and we would like to stay together in ONE room. I tried to use priceline to name my own price but there isn't anywhere I can put in that we need two beds. How do I name my own price and also let them know that we have 4 adults? Please help.

Also, I would like to bid a 3* hotel so what price should I start with? And what areas in NYC?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Are you okay with the very distinct possibility of one bed? (PRICELINE only guarantees one bed per room, and no where is one bed probably more likely than in NYC.)

I need two bed in the same room and I don't mind paying more for that. However, like you said, priceline only provides 1 bed most likely... Any suggestions of how I can go around it or get a better rate for 4 ppl in the same room in NYC? THANK YOU

Are all of the above in your budget... you may be able to get two rooms, at hotels similarly rated or higher, for less than the cost of some of the above. Not only does this give you more space and privacy (NYC hotel rooms are notoriously small) but also gives you an extra bathroom which makes getting ready in the morning that much quicker.

Let us know your thoughts (and maximum budget) if you're interested in going the 2 room route.

If not, the 3* in Chelsea is a match for the Holiday Inn Express Madison Square Garden so that would be our best guess for that one. It's the least expensive, has good Tripadvisor reviews, and includes breakfast... probably the best value out of the group.

I would like to keep the hotel cost to be under US$250 before tax and fees if possible if breakfast isn't included. If breakfast is included for 4 then I can pay around $320 ish. I don't mind splitting into two rooms so what are my options? Should I go with Priceline or Hotwire in that case?

THANK YOU

I think you're overestimating the value of breakfast... in NYC some of the best places are local bakeries and bagel shops where you can have a great breakfast (bagles, cream cheese (lox if you fancy that), muffins, pastries, coffee, etc) and it won't cost you nearly $70 for four people.

Regardless, the 3* MSG property for quad occupancy is a very good deal for quad occupancy and includes breakfast. You need to make a decision if this would be good for your needs OR if you'd want to pay a little more for 2 rooms, where PRICELINE then becomes an option, and i think you could get a 4* hotel for ~$125-$150/room, but breakfast will not likely be included.

Good idea of just going to local bakeries for breakfast.

Please advise me on using Priceline and what star level, price and zone to begin with. I haven't been to NY so I can't decide which part of NY to stay. It would be great if you give me exact instructions! My max. would be $280 US after taxes and fees for two rooms. Is that doable?

At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Start with our link to PRICELINE:

Select 4* MTE, MTW, TS, ESB, and CPS...

Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $120.

$280 'all-in' is only about a $115 bid per room, which i exceeded above, but you can stop at whatever level you're comfortable with. (doublecheck the totals on the 'bid review' screen before your price the BUY MY HOTEL ROOM NOW button)

Any questions feel free to ask.

Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Did exactly as you suggested but I was rejected up to $120 each room then I stopped. I guess it's a Sat. night so I would need to go up to $150 per room to get it.

How about 3.5* hotels? Can you please suggest the price and area to begin the bid again? Thank You!

Which zone(s) did you want to include when bidding at the 3.5* level... 'lower midtown' (ie- Chelsea, MSG, ESB, etc) all come into play now, and also not sur if you want to include the MTE zone or not... there are a few 3.5* properties (the Millenium UN, for example) which are very nice and generally get good reivews, but a little far east; certainly do-able, especially if you intend to leave in the morning and return at nite, with not many or any trips back to the hotel during the day, but it is a little far each (15 minute walk to the subway)

How far is 'too far' from the subway?

Is 10 minutes too far? 15 minutes? What if there is a bus stop nearby?

I forget what you said above if you've to NYC before or not, but the it's really a city that "feeds on itself"... you start off heading to one place, then from there somthing interests you so you take a detour, then you find something else and detour to that, etc, etc... so you really aren't heading to/from your hotel and the subway very frequently, you may find yourself leaving the hotel in the morning and not returning until late at nite or just before dinner just to 'freshen up' for a few minutes before heading out again.

Personally i'd be fine with 3.5* in any of the midtown zones, although i'd save MTE as a 'last resort' as it's do-able, but less convenient than some of the others (there are also sections of some of the other Midtown zones which are more/less convenient than others, but you can't choose which section of the zone you end up with, and as per above it's not that big of a deal, imo)

If you want to head this advice this is how i would bid....

At the 3.5* level you have THREE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.
