wk76 Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Hello all, first time reader here. I'd like to take my wife to Chicago for our 5 year anniversay and am looking at a potential Thurs-Sun (3 night) stay in the North Mich Avn area at a 4 star hotel. Would like to find a hotel for no more than $75 a night and wanted to see if there were any major events going on any of the weekends in August that I should avoid in order to get the price I'm looking for. The two current dates i'm looking at are 8/6/-8/9 and 8/13/-8/16. The first dates are my first choice but I saw another post where someone got a rate of $130 due to a concert during that weekend. Any suggestions? Also, please provide bidding $$ suggestions based on your recommended date if possible. Many thanks for your input in advance. This is a great forum :)
thereuare Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! (and thanks for the compliments on the board)Your second set of dates are much cheaper than your first, but you can certainly try your first set of dates firs, then if rejected, try your second set of dates. At the 4* level you have FOUR re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* NMA...Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. wk76 Posted July 13, 2009 Author Report Posted July 13, 2009 Yeah you were right. Got shot down for the $55-$75 bids for 8/6-8/9 dates. Looks like I can't make it to the alternate date of 8/14-8/16 so we'll see. May have to continue bidding from $80 till I hit it. If I placed a bid for 7/30-8/2, do you think I could lock in any of those rates for a 4 star in N. Mich Avn zone? Thanks again for your suggestions.
thereuare Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 I think you have a good chance for the dates of 7/30-8/2.Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. AaronJB Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 7/30-8/2 would be good. I believe that Lollapalooza is the second weekend in August, and that can be quite busy.
