Hi, I am new to this board and yesterday I bid as high as $150 yesterday for July 16-19 for 4* Inner Harbor/Downtown. With no luck. There is a convention 16-18 and who knows what else. I'm just wondering if you think prices may drop closer to the dates, or is it best to go higher to lock something in now? Thanks for any advice!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

If you knew how many people were going to cancel their conference reservations, and how many have yet to book, you'd be able to have some insight as to whether rates are liekly to go up or down in the next week, but without this information, nobody can say. For additional info see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.

What is the best rate you're able to find at an acceptable hotel thru conventional booking channels?

thanks for the reply and insight, I would pay 170 although that won't get 4 stars, and of course as a greedy Priceline bidder I see others getting 4 stars for $85, in fact Priceline sent me an email advertising prices bidders got in baltimore and they included a 4 star $85 one, but of course they don't give the date.

What is the minimum star level you're willing to accept for this price?

Did you want to bid for a 4* up to this limit first, then if rejected lower to 3.5*, and so-on until you reach your minimum star rating... OR are you looking for the least expensive hotel at the minimum star level you select or better?

I have bid up to 150 for 4 star and 120 for 3.5 star. I'd like to stay at 4 or 3.5 I definitely don't want to go below 3 star. And I want to stay in the Inner Harbor/Downtown zone. I think I can buy a 4 star directly for 240-300 and a 3 star for maybe 160, I'd like to do a lot better on priceline bidding for a 4 star or 3.5 if possible.

Looking at this stay more closely, is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? It appears the weekend dates are the expensive ones, so you could be successful at a 4* for just Thursday (likely at under $100) and then book someplace else for the remaining weekend dates... would the savings be worth changing hotels mid-stay? It's also possible that the some of the savings be applied to increase your budget for the other two nites, which might make the difference between success/failure.

An option for your weekend dates might be the Holiday Inn Express which apparently doesn't have the best location, but they do offer scheduled shuttle to the Inner Harbor area, but does get good reviews. This hotel is avaialble for $180/nite, although i believe it's also thru HOTWIRE for $165/nite.

Following the bidding advive received from teh moderator here, I split my bid for 3 nights and got the Hyatt Regency for $75, it was my first bid this time but I knew others had gotten 4* in Baltimore from $66 to $85, so I was pleased with teh $75. This hotel list for abot $295. The next two nights I will report on separately, but I got the InterContinental for $190.

Congratulations on your success!

While SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID is usually not the most convenient approach, looks like you did well by doing so for this stay, and at least this nite was fairly inexpensive.

Thank you for sharing your win with the board, i'm glad we were able to help you with this trip.
