cyrillesley Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 HiTravelling to NYC on 19th November for 3 nights, 2 paxIdeally looking to get my best bang for my buck for sub $230 per nightAm torn between holding out for a 4.5* (Waldorf or Benjamin) nearer the time (perhaps booking 2 weeks before) or plumping now for a deal. Not too precious on area but the Midtowns and Times Sq look reasonable for where the action and shopping is.Spied this 4* for my dates in Times SQ, cost $184 per nightAmenities - Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, High Speed Internet Access, Spa ServicesDoes this look like a good one, or shall I hold fireWhat a conundrum! Thanks in advance for your helpCyril
AaronJB Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 Welcome to the site. Are there any areas of Midtown that you would not be interested in staying in? This is generally a busier time in NYC, and prices are currently pretty hefty for these dates. If demand keeps up for these dates, there's certainly a chance that prices could go higher. The 4* would be a match for either the Westin Times Square or W Times Square (although the W seems a bit more likely of the two) - either way, that seems like a very good deal (the cheapest HOTWIRE listing out of the 3.5*'s and 4*'s showing), given how high rates are for TS hotels for these dates. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase, and let us know if you have any questions.
cyrillesley Posted July 7, 2009 Author Report Posted July 7, 2009 Thanks Aaron for a speedy responseI don't think I am that precious on area.I'm not a big walker and was happy to cab it around as necessary.I've stayed in the DoubleTree Garden Inn before and thought it was a great location for excursions on foot but was hoping for something a little more upmarket.W hotel or Westin probably fit that bill.Only question was whether it was worth holding out for the 4.5* (would love to get the Waldorf on a deal - is that on the list?) but that sounds like a risky strategy?I had thought prices would come down closer to the time as hotels (no doubt struggling still in this market) looked to dispose of rooms cheaper...Sounds like you think the reverse may occur, is that right?Bearing in mind your experience how would you play it.Cyril
thereuare Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 Nobody can say if rates will go down... or up, between now and your stay. This typically a busy time of year in NYC, and based upon current HOTWIRE rates, the next best deal on a 4* hotel i the midotwn area for these dates is $250+, so this would look to be a very good deal at the moment.HOTWIRE only shows one hotel at each star rating per zone, so if you do chose to wait, the risk is not just of prices going up, but this property being replaced by one that you may not like as much or that doesn't work as well for your plans.I also agree that the W Times Square looks the most likely and that would be my best guess. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. AaronJB Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 Looking around, I'm really not seeing anything much in the way of better alternatives - regular rates for similar properties in NYC are more expensive (the Algonquin is $165 on Quikbook non-refundable, but I'd rather take this HOTWIRE listing for $14 more), and this is the best deal of the 3.5/4*'s on HOTWIRE.
cyrillesley Posted July 8, 2009 Author Report Posted July 8, 2009 Just bit the bullet and went for the 4* nr Times Square, NYC, 19th to 22nd November.Ended up getting the W Times Square as you predicted.Pleased with that. Thanks for your help guys.Cyril
cyrillesley Posted July 8, 2009 Author Report Posted July 8, 2009 meant to add $184 per night.CheersCyril
AaronJB Posted July 8, 2009 Report Posted July 8, 2009 Congratulations on your success and thanks for posting your win.Given that this hotel was recently renovated and the lowest rate I'm seeing on the hotel website is $377 for these dates, this certainly seems like a terrific deal.Thank you for sharing your win with the board. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Have a great stay!
