Winterpeg Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 Hi Everyone:First post on the board. I have used both Priceline and Hotwire before but your board is so full of useful information that I had to join and contribute. I would most likely use Priceline and bid for a room on this occassion. We need a room (5Star) for my wife and I in the Soho/Mayfair area of London. We would be arriving September 13th, 2009 for 5 nights and the question that I have is:How far in advance should I book for this stay? September is the beginning of a slower season, so your advice is appreiated.I noticed a few persons had gotten the JW Marriott Grovenor House for about $155 plus tax in July would be acceptable. I would start lower because of the non summer season. Thanks in advance and I will definetely use the "tabbs" for the Priceline site from this site.Winterpeg

paulieuk Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 The retail prices for September are very high as I've been discovering in my quest for accommodation for my in-laws who are visiting.Bids are being rejected for 14-17 September and 23-25 September in the often accepted ranges in a variety of zones.A friend who works for Accor (owners of Sofitel, Novotel, Mercure etc) says "sept is really busy in London - dont believe what you read in the paper about london hotels - business is rocking ..."
brianc_li Posted July 7, 2009 Report Posted July 7, 2009 September is the beginning of a slower season.Don't know where you got that information from. September is arguably (along with May) the busiest month of the year in London. (Also Paris and Amsterdam that I know of, probably many more). Business tourism is back in full swing by then and there are still a lot of regular tourists around. Also, with the pound being so weak against the euro at present there are a lot of visitors from the mainland.
Winterpeg Posted July 7, 2009 Author Report Posted July 7, 2009 Hi Everyone:I just did my first attempt at bidding for a 5 Star in Soho/Mayfair and I started with $125 per night and ended up getting the JW Marriott Grosvenor House for $149 a night for 5 nights for a total of $875.98 all taxes included.I used the PRICELINE link and will update the calender with those numbers.Happy Bidding:Winterpeg
