Welcome to the site.

Both the Michigan Ave (North of the River) and Loop (South of the River) areas are quite safe. The Mag Mile area has more going on at night (as well as more in the way of restaurants/shopping), while the the Loop area is closer to museums. However, both areas are close to one another, and one can pretty easily walk from one area to see the sights in the other (or easily take public transit.)

Thanks for your help! I'll research the Hard Rock & Westin (already did for Sheraton). Am wondering if this is the best area to stay? We'll be going to the museum, Navy Pier, American Girl, Hancock, etc... walking and sightseeing. Would like to have a nice hotel that is centrally located. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance for your input.

I didn't see the spa icon listed when I originally responded to this post. Given that, this would likely be the Hyatt (also right by the river.)

How many people in your party? I'd be happy to search and see if I can find any other options.

Hello~ there will be only two of us. I did research Hard Rock...reviews weren't great. As you said, the Westin sounds nice. We're on a budget, (aren't we all??), so the best place at the best price...in the best location is what I'm looking for. I didn't see your second post when I read over this quickly a few minutes ago...my apologies. Wondering if I should look in the Loop area?

Also, do you have any thoughts on the "GoChicago" Card? Is it worth the money?

The GoChicago card is worthwhile if the admission price of the sites you plan to see goes over the cost of the card. For example, the Shedd Aquarium is $24.95 per person.

The Chicago Citypass would be the other option; which is best for you would depend on your plans.

If there are only 2 in the party and you are on a budget, have you considered PRICELINE? You could probably get a very good deal for PRICELINE for these dates if you are flexible on which hotel you may end up with.

Hmmm...I have looked at Priceline, but didn't have a lot of time to browse on it. I'll take another look at it. Thanks so much for your help! I wish I could just book the Westin for about $70.

That's a fantastic deal for a very centrally located hotel. The hotel is right near the corner of Wacker and Michigan Ave. If you're standing on Wacker and Michigan and look to the South on Michigan, the Art Institute and Millennium Park are a few blocks South. Looking North on Michigan, the Michigan Ave. shopping area starts just to the North, over the bridge.

Both main boat tours (Wendella and Chicago Architecture Foundation) leave from the Michigan Ave. bridge next to the hotel. If you are looking for a quick (and very good) bite to eat, there's a Corner Bakery location a couple of blocks West on Wacker (just past the corner of Wacker and Michigan.)
