nhojeod Posted July 6, 2009 Report Posted July 6, 2009 First bid of $60 rejected, not surprised. Will be increasing the bid amounts gradually over the next week or two.
nhojeod Posted July 9, 2009 Author Report Posted July 9, 2009 $60 - Rejected$65 - Rejected$66 - Rejected, Counter-offer + $17
Romelle Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 You did well rejecting that counter-offer. While results vary, usually people are successful about 1/2 way between the their bid and the counter. Your strategy is right and you've got time. But don't be surprised if you sometimes get an even higher counter along the way. Happens a lot, and also can be ignored.Romelle

rossm Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 Thank you Mr Hoboken......I am trying to book basic 2 or 3* in Sydney from Aug 5 to 8 (3 nites) - and Priceline is suggesting $65 median price for the bid. As the forum appears to be all 4 and 5* folk talking about those specific hotels (like the Marriott) do you have any idea what hotels might be in the 2* offering and what the bidding price range might be for the 2* on Priceline (Hotwire doesn't service Syd it appears - odd....)?Much thanks - as always....I'm still learning!Ross
thereuare Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 All hotels reported to the board would be found in the Priceline Hotel List.I'm not sure what properties could appear at the 2* level, but i'd be very cautious bidding below 3* outside of North America.... while some hotels at this star level may be fine for your needs, some may not, and with PRICELINE you dont' get the option to choose which type you will get. This may account for why there are no 2* hotels reported to the board for this area, as well as the fact that the value is typically found at the higher rated hotels... high and low rated hotels all share many of the same fixed costs, so there is much more room for a higher-end hotel to discount their $200 rate than there is for a lowerend hotel to discount their $75 rate. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know whatever you decide and how it goes or if we an be of further help. JOSEPH SOHMER Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 With limited time available ( need a hotel in Sydney for the 2nd week of September) can you give me a bidding strategy for 3-star and up ($55-$80) please. I do not see any possible dummy zones in order to have > one bid per day. Your help is greatly appreciated.ThanksJoe (Montreal)

nhojeod Posted August 24, 2009 Author Report Posted August 24, 2009 Admin. Could you please change the topic title to5* Sydney (City Centre) Hilton Sydney 21/8 - 22/8$128I wasn't as disciplined as I thought I would be, ended up bidding too late(1 week prior to hotel stay date) and bids from $80 through to $90 were not being accepted. Here are some of the records of my previous bids,4* $60 Rejected4* $65 Rejected4* $66 Rejected, Counter-offer +$174* $67 Rejected, Counter-offer +$174* $68 Rejected, Counter-offer +$17All the above bids were 5 weeks prior to the hotel stay date.Due to the last minute change of plans, I upped the star rating to 5* and put in $128, this was a bid on 8/19. The stay at the Hilton was ok, felt more like a 4* instead of a 5*. Also, if you are looking for rates on hotels in sydney, I suggest using wotif.com. It has a easy to reference grid listings of all the hotels with prices and corresponding dates.Thanks.
