canada Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 you can add the tudor hotel and suites to the south beach 3 stars. i thought i was getting the holiday inn-south beach but no....i got this place which i have found terrible reviews for and i called them to ask for a double room and they want $20 extra per night paid to the hotel for a room with 2 double beds.i am a long time, satisfied priceline user and this was my first hotwire experience. probably the last. never been asked for extra money for 2 double beds with priceline hotels. this place isn't on the 3 star list for priceline. not looking forward to it.canada.Tudor Hotel & Suites1111 Collins AvenueMiami Beach, FL 33139(305) 534-2934 Guest Name(s): Check-in: Fri, Nov 19, 2004 Check-out: Sun, Nov 21, 2004Hotel1 room(s) @ $60.00 per night x 2 night(s) $120.00Hotel Taxes and fees: $21.95Hotel Subtotal $141.95Total Price $141.95Some hotels may apply additional charges for incidentalfees such as parking. thereuare Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 Welcome to BetterBidding! Can you please list the amenities that Hotwire associated with this hotel before purchase. You can still view these by clicking the MY ACCOUNT link on the top right corner of Hotwire's home page. What made you think that you would be getting the Holiday Inn?I don't know if you learned of this site before or after your purchase, but a recent search for these dates leads me to suspect that the amenities of this hotel are Beach Access, Restaurant, Golf, Business, Laundry (is this correct?)... and these do not match what is known to be assoicated with the Holiday Inn property. Thanks in advance for your follow-up. canada Posted October 23, 2004 Author Report Posted October 23, 2004 here are the details for this place:South Beach - See mapSelected amenities include: Near Beach, Restaurant(s), Golf Nearby, Business Center, Laundry Facilities (self-service). View complete amenity list and description Best Value!$65per room per nightup to $65 now. i was on TOBB before i bought this room. priceline has the holiday inn as their only 3 star in south beach. i guess i was hoping it was the same for hotwire. i found this site afterwards. this room will end up costing me $90/night for a room with 2 double beds. i can get a rate of $84 through other non-bidding sites or directly through the hotel. they say this up-charge is only for hotwire. great.
canada Posted October 23, 2004 Author Report Posted October 23, 2004 by the way. you have the holiday inn as a hotwire 3 star in south beach as well:Miami (South Beach)4* The PalmsAmenities: Beachfront, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Business4* Royal Palm Crowne PlazaAmenities: Beachfront, Restaurant, Pool , Fitness, Laundry3* Holiday Inn South BeachAmenities: Restaurant, Golf, Laundry3* Richmond HotelAmenities: Boutique, Beachfront, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Business, Tennis3* Tudor Hotel and SuitesAmenities: <none supplied by user>(believed to be: Beach Access, Restaurant, Golf, Business, Laundry)
thereuare Posted October 23, 2004 Report Posted October 23, 2004 You are right, we too list the Holiday Inn, but the idea with Hotwire is to try to match up the amenities icons and star rating. Now that you know about BetterBidding, you can compare what is shown on your Hotwire search to what is on our lists... in this instance you would have known that this property was not the Holiday Inn. canada Posted October 23, 2004 Author Report Posted October 23, 2004 thanks. i'll keep that in mind if i ever use hotwire again, which is unlikely. their ratings seem generous and the upcharge for a room with 2 beds is a joke.
thereuare Posted October 24, 2004 Report Posted October 24, 2004 The upcharge is not imposed by Hotwire... it is being charged by the Tudor Hotel and that is who your gripe should be with. Afterall, Hotwire's only guarantee, as with Priceline's, is that they will provide sleeping accomodations for two adults.I personally don't think that this charge would be imposed if requested at check-in, but if it was, do you think they would treat Priceline customers any differently (assuming that this hotel also participates with Priceline)? canada Posted October 24, 2004 Author Report Posted October 24, 2004 i would be surprised if priceline and this hotel have an agreement. TOBB does not show it in their list and no customers ever posted the tudor.also, i know that the upcharge is being imposed by the hotel. i said that in my first post and.....they will definately charge me the premium. they made it crystal clear on the phone.i have used priceline over 100 times in the last 3 years in many different cities. whether ahead of time or at check in, many of those times i have requested a room with 2 beds and have never been asked to pay extra by the hotel. i haven't been that fortunate. believe me.....priceline hotels give their guests a double room if available at no extra charge.
thereuare Posted October 25, 2004 Report Posted October 25, 2004 As per THIS POST i guess you are right:Just checked in to this poor & stinky Comfort Inn and was charged $10/room more for 2 beds! The nasty asst. manager Sean said that it is PL's policy that dictates that PL bookers get only 1 bed! This is the first time, and I've booked lots with PL, I have been charged extra for 2 beds in a room. Yes, I tried to use a $10 tip with the desk clerk but she was new and scared of her shadow and said she could not take it! So be it!This user had many discussions of it happening to him at various hotels, and one chain in particular. He was also very successful at getting upgrades to suites, so i don't think it was his attitude. canada Posted October 25, 2004 Author Report Posted October 25, 2004 confort inn's are 1 or 2 stars with priceline. i only go 3 star and up and never had this issue. i'm one for one with hotwire though. but i guess a 3 star on hotwire is really 2 or less.you've been a lot of help.thanks.
canada Posted November 27, 2004 Author Report Posted November 27, 2004 why'd you remove my post regarding my awful experince at the tudor and hotwire's lack of action?
thereuare Posted November 27, 2004 Report Posted November 27, 2004 It wasn't removed, it was moved to the HOTEL REVIEW section of the board where it will be of more use to more people. Eventually this thread will make it to the back pages of the Florida forum and nobody will see it and learn of the experience you had... having it in the review section will allow others to add their own experiences after yours and users can then get a consensus of opinions over time. Moving the post also enables us to add a REVIEW link next to this hotel in the list of HOTWIRE HOTELS, so if somebody matches this property to what they are currently seeing they can quickly link to the review and get opinions of the place.I would also suggest that if you have such a negative experience with tangible examples (ie- bed springs poking thru the mattress, construction damage in the bathroom, etc) that you take some pictures and post them at RealHotelPhotos.com as you would then be able to show everyone, as well as Hotwire, actual examples of what you found wrong with the place. Not much you can do to show poor service, thin walls, or music playing all nite as these are all intangible, but with the other items a picture would certainly be worth a thousand words (and more likely to get you compensation... yet not a complete refund).
