drmurray Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 Hello- this is my first postA friend at work suggested this site.I am taking our family of four to NYC for 4 days from July 19-23. The two kids are teenagers, so we would need 2 double beds. We really need 2 double beds, and I don't want 2 rooms., so we may not be able to take advantage of Priceline or Hotwire. We are pretty flexible about location and star count, although we were hoping for the Times Square area as we are going to attend at least 2 theater productions. We like the amount of restaurants in the area as well. We have a full schedule of activities throughout Manhattan and we will take advantage of public transportation. Ideally a 4 or 3.5 star would be best. We would like to get a decent view of the city and must have internet access. being from a small town in New Hampshire, a great view would be really awesome to open the kid's eyes. We don't need many other features, as we plan to eat elsewhere. Cheap parking would be great, but I am prepared to search somewhere else so that is not a deal breaker. We would like to keep the price around $120-$140 per night. Is this possible? How would you recommend I proceed, given these parameters? I really don't know what I am doing with these two sites. To recap, must haves:2 double bedsInternet accessGood views$120-$140nice to have:Times Square areaCheap parkingThanks in advance
AaronJB Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 Welcome to the site.Unfortunately, "cheap parking" and "New York City" are really not two things that go together (see also: Chicago and quite a few other major cities); you would be best finding a different parking lot. Taking the Amtrak in (although not sure what the closest station would be to where you are leaving from) would be another idea. The issue with PRICELINE is that only 1 bed is guaranteed. HOTWIRE, on the other hand, guarantees bedding (that can mean 1 bed + 1 sofabed or 2 beds) for the whole party.Views are generally an upgrade (which PRICELINE/HOTWIRE reservations are not eligible for) when available in NYC, and some hotels do not have views, due to the fact that the city is so densely built up. HOTWIRE does have a 3.5* in Times Square for these dates when searching for 2 adults/2 kids, with the amenities: suite, fitness, restaurant, business, internet, but it is showing at $159. This would be a match for the Doubletree Guest Suites TS. If you booked this property, you could try to call the hotel and request a high floor room, but that would only be a request and not a guarantee. Please use the site's HOTWIRE link to start your purchase, and let us know if you have any questions.
thereuare Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 Searching HOTWIRE for 2adults/2children will assure sleeping accomodations for everyone you include in your search. Usually this means 2 beds, although it could be one bed and a pullout sofabed. Are you able/willing to stretch your budget to $159 and does the above option work for your needs? If not, what is the best rate you're able to find for an acceptable hotel for these dates and quad occupancy? (i'm assuming it will be much more than $150/nite)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. AaronJB Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 There are other, somewhat less expensive options on HOTWIRE and other sites (Park South w/breakfast for $142 on Quikbook, for example and Murray Hill Suites for $139 w/10JUN coupon code on Expedia.com), but they are hotels of a lesser star rating and in other parts of the city than TS.Please use the site's Quikbook or Expedia.com links if either of these ideas do appeal.
drmurray Posted July 5, 2009 Author Report Posted July 5, 2009 There are other, somewhat less expensive options that I found, but they are hotels of a lesser star rating and in other parts of the city than TS.GentsThanks for the unbelievably fast response. After some looking around through TravelZoo, Expedia, AAA, etc, we went ahead and booked the HOTWIRE $159/night rate, which indeed turned out to be the Doubletree. A major element in this decision were the glowing opinions of the Doubletree, many of which cited the location. We are definitely pushing our budget, but you only live once. we are all very excited about this trip.I hope I successfully booked this through your HOTWIRE link, which is what I attempted to do.Thanks very much for your help! I will use your service again. Is there a way to set my profile to get an email whenever there is a response to a post of mine? Thanks again!drmurray
