verga Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 Hi all,My family will be visiting New York for the first time for 2 nights from Oct 11 to Oct 13/09. We are looking for 3 rooms in Manhattan. My maximum limit is $120 (excluding taxes) but can increase to $125 for 3* hotel. Price and location are more important than the *level.I followed your instructions to Koya. I started at $80 instead of $70 and ended at $110 for 3.5* hotel but no luck. I re-started bidding for 3* hotel and reached $115 when I was asked to increase offer by $22. I closed the browser and increased bid to $118 for CPS, MTE, MTW, MSG, TS and ESB, was asked to wait for a few minutes while it does it search but no go. So I added Chelsea and increased the bid to $120 - again asked to wait a few more minutes but again not successful.Should I wait until tomorrow to re-bid? My last bid included CPS, MTE, MTW, MSG, TS, ESB and Chelsea so I may not have any free rebids left. Should I have my husband try with his account tonite?BTW - I used all the PRICELINE links you provided to Koya to do my bids. Thanks,Verga
AaronJB Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)The other thread you mentioned is in regards to different dates, so that strategy would not apply here, as rates are "date-specific". I wouldn't go much further than you have, given the rates that are showing for these dates are rather low for these dates. How many people are going to be in each room? I ask because PRICELINE only guarantees 1 bed in each room.Thank you for using the site's PRICELINE link to start your bidding.
verga Posted July 5, 2009 Author Report Posted July 5, 2009 There are 6 of us (3 couples), two in each room. Oct 12 is Columbus day so the hotels may be busy that time. I wonder if I should lower my bid to 2.5* or wait?We haven't booked any cancellable hotel yet. Priceline's regular booking site is showing the Park Hotel (3*) at an average of $161 per night before taxes. Should I book 3 rooms there as back up? It says it is cancellabe but would they charge my credit card right away and then issue a refund if I cancel? Thanks for all your assistance. thereuare's strategy to Koya was good and easy to follow.Best,Verga
thereuare Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 When you bid again are you intending to hold firm with your $120 maximum bid or now that you know you're 'close' (assuming that you'll be successful at $137/nite or less, based upon PRICELINE's counter-offer) do you intend on going a little higher if necessary? Thanks for using our PRICELINE links for your bidding. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
verga Posted July 5, 2009 Author Report Posted July 5, 2009 I think I will try up to $125 for a 3* hotel. I had by husband try to bid an hour ago using but it says duplicate request so maybe my IP is being tracked. This means I can't do any re-bids tonight :) I will do my re-bids at my workplace tomorrow morning up to $125 for a 3* hotel.I am wondering what hotels I would likely get for a 2.5* star and up to what max price I should go up to? Thanks for all your help. I would never have figured out the permutation formula you gave to Koya.
AaronJB Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 I would try to get a 3* first, as I'm doubtful that there will be a major price variation between an acceptable 2.5* and 3* bid. The list of reported PRICELINE hotels for NYC is here
verga Posted July 5, 2009 Author Report Posted July 5, 2009 Thanks thereuare and AaronJB. I will stick to 3* and hope for the best tomorrow. Who knows, I might up my bid to $130 and perhaps close the deal :) I really appreciate all your help.Best,Verga
verga Posted July 6, 2009 Author Report Posted July 6, 2009 :) SUCCESS at last!! 4* $135 Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan (Oct 11 - Oct 13)I followed the strategy provided to KOVA for 3.5* hotel and used all your PRICELINE links but changed the bid price as follows:Select 3.5* CPS, MTE, and MTW...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* MSG, TS, and ESB...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* CPS, MTE, MTW, MSG, TS, and ESB...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...MY final bid - $135 (success at last) and upgraded to 4*Per Priceline website - the hotel rate is $291 per night.I was planning to stop at $135 anyway because I can book Park Central Hotel (3*) with easyclicktravel.com at $142 per night. I couldn't have done this without your help so thank you very much!! :) :o How do I edit the title to show my winning bid price?Best,Verga
