Bicudo Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Hi all,Me and my wife are due to arrive in NYC (JFK) on 09/20/09 and leave evening 09/27/09, so I need a hotel for a week.Originally, I wanted to stay somewhere very central close to Times Square and the theatres. We are planning to spend around USD 120/day/room.Some friends, told us about New Jersey. We look around, but to be there we need to get a hotel close to the transportations system, that qe can take a train/bus.. Btw, is it worth trying to save money on staying outside the centre of NYC ? And if so, where do you recommend us to stay ?We don't want to be travelling for too long each day but if the savings are there, we might need to consider it!Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance
AaronJB Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Welcome to the site. While others can certainly discuss the commuting options from NJ to NY better than I can, I will say, whether it's worth it or not depends on the person and the price difference from the likely price of a NYC PRICELINE or HOTWIRE purchase and a NJ PRICELINE/HOTWIRE purchase. There's also the consideration of time, transit fare and things like not being able to step out of the hotel and into the city in the morning and spending the whole day knowing that you will have to make the transit trip back at the end of the day. For a few days, this may be okay, but if commuting back-and-forth turns out to not be your cup-of-tea (although you may not mind it), I'd imagine it will become rather tiring over 7 days. These are expensive dates in NYC, although 9/24-27 seems somewhat better than the rest. You could possibly try bidding for these dates and spending the first 4 in NJ.Would $120 be your max whether in NYC or NJ?Let us know your thoughts and we can then proceed from there with further suggestions. Please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links.
