pedsmd Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 Attending a conference at McCormick Place on 7/27 to 8/2 and driving in with family (3 kids 4 to 8) on 7/27. Needed help with the following;1) A good location to spend the night 7/27 outside of Chicago en route from Cleveland where we can possibly leave our car cheaply at a garage and take the train into the city the next day for 5 nights and then return to pick up the car by train on 8/2.2) I felt with the family staying at McCormick place would leave them with little to do during the day close by. Welcome recommendations for nicer hotels close by (thinking the loop or mag mile) where I can easily take a train to McCormick place. I am OK with a 20 minute ride if needed, but the shorter the better. Pool not a deal breaker.3) With 3 kids (8,6,4) can I still use hotwire and get only one room with double beds? We have stayed lke this before and it works out fine. Can you run the risk of listing only 2 kids and sneaking in the third?Any advice greatly appreciated.
thereuare Posted July 4, 2009 Report Posted July 4, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please use separate threads for each leg of your stay... we'll use this thread for the Chicago leg of your stay, feel free to start a NEW TOPIC for the Cleveland leg.I'm not sure just how close the El train goes to McCormick Place (looks like it's a few blocks walk, but i see the Metra does), but i'm sure AaronJB we be able to answer this will add info accordingly.... i assume if you had to take a bus (or taxi) down Michigan Ave that would be acceptable?HOTWIRE guarantees sleeping accomodations for everyone you include in your search, so your room would only be guaranteed for quad occupancy (assuming you included four people in your search), but i'm sure others with children have 'snuck' them in, but it's something that you need to be comfortable with. pedsmd Posted July 4, 2009 Author Report Posted July 4, 2009 actually got the embassy suites on hotwire for $119 prior to getting your reply. now i know to check my messages. still need a room for one night on 7/27 somewhere outside the city where we could possibly leave the car and take the train into chicago and then pick the car up again on 8-2. We would want the nicest hotel for the money so a 3 to 4 star would work.thanksRG
AaronJB Posted July 4, 2009 Report Posted July 4, 2009 Which Embassy Suites? What were the amenities showing on the HOTWIRE listing?I don't drive, so I'm unfamiliar with parking options South of the city, but the only major option I'm aware of South of the city would be the Midway Airport lots. I wouldn't recommend parking at a Metra station or something along those lines. The cheapest parking downtown is at the Grant Park garage, which is $25, although some have reported that Navy Pier has long-term for $20 a night (surprising, given Navy Pier - you would have to call and confirm that.) The nicest area outside of the city to stay would be the Oak Brook/Downers Grove area, which is to the SW of the city, but I'm not aware of any long-term parking options in those areas. Please use the site's HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links.
