Priceline Hotel: 4* San Jose (Sunnyvale - Santa Clara) Hilton

After much frustration trying to get this hotel for cheap, I was coming up empty. I'd been trying for Thursday-Sunday. My bids were up to $85 and still no luck. I gave up because I can get the convention rate for $99, so I figured I'd just wait and try again when the date got closer.

Then today I read on BB somewhere about splitting a bid. So I decided to try for just the weekend (Friday 4/22 with checkout on Sunday 4/24). SUCCESS!

Sunnyvale/Santa Clara $48

add Downtown San Jose $51

add Milpitas $54 (accepted)

I'm still bidding unsuccessfully on the Thursday night room. So far I'm up to $69. It's listed at $219. I'm thinking that I won't find a better deal than my $99 convention price for the one night.

Glad you were able to use some of the info here and it helped!

Your post serves as a good example of how the flexibility of splitting your bid can work to your advantage... see how much you would have overbid for the weekend nites if you had been accepted at $85?

For anyone else interested here is the thread that discusses SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID.

Is this the actual hotel where the conference is being held?

Thanks for sharing and enjoy your stay (even though it will be work :) )

You're right about the $85. I was convinced that there had to be a way. I consider it providential that I came across that info on splitting a bid!

Oh, I did forget to mention that when I placed the first bid at $48, I got an "offer" from PL for a guaranteed booking at $14 more. As you can see, I declined and saved myself eight bucks! :)

The convention is directly across the street at the convention center adjoining the Westin. The Westin rooms are a bit more cushy, but their convention special is higher than Hilton's. We actually stayed at this particular Hilton the past two years, so I was delighted to learn that this is the hotel that gets the PL bids.

As for "working," these conventions are actually fun for me!

Thanks again for all the inside scoop. I have enjoyed getting the hang of using PL to my greatest advantage!
