redttabby Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 I want to visit Chicago with my wife and two kids (2years and 10months)5 nights on 10-15jul but we are flexible between 7-18julWe want a hotel in the downtown, free parking or as cheaper as possible. Three stars would be fineIn hotwire the cheaper I've seen is 135$ in West Loop Medical district but we were thinking about 80max per night.Do you recommend any strategy? Thanks in advance
AaronJB Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Welcome to the site. PRICELINE doesn't guarantee 2 beds, so that would not be usable. There are no hotels with free parking in the city. The best deal I'm seeing on HOTWIRE when searching for 4 people (2/2) total is during 7/13-18; there's a 4* in the Mag Mile/Streeterville area with fitness, restaurant, business, internet and spa for $92 (the price you see may vary.) This is likely the Hyatt on Wacker Drive. You could park in the nearby Millennium Park lots for $25. $92+$25 = $117 per night. Please use the site's HOTWIRE link if this idea is of interest.
redttabby Posted June 30, 2009 Author Report Posted June 30, 2009 Thank you for your quick and useful answer. Althoug we have flexibility on the dates, now the flight prices are affordable on 10/15Jul but too expensive the other dates. I would assume the risk on only one bed room becouse two cribs or pack&plays will be enough for my kids. In this case, do you recommend any strategy on PRICELINE ?Thanks
AaronJB Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 I'd try $70 for a 4* in the Millennium Park/Loop/Grant Park area or the River North/NMA area on PRICELINE for 7/13-18. If $70 doesn't work, try $75 24 hours later. Please use the site's PRICELINE link to start your purchase.
thereuare Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 I don't think your budget is enough for these dates, but if you wanted to give it a try, you do have FOUR re-bid zones when bidding 4* in Chicago. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* NMA and Loop...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $78, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80Any quesitonsl feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. redttabby Posted July 10, 2009 Author Report Posted July 10, 2009 Thank all of you for the information.I did't find good flights on july and I got a Southwest offer for 17/24 OCT.Now I don't have intention to rent a car, then I don't need parking.I'd prefer a room with kitchen or at least with microwave. I've seen the redroof about 150$.100$ is a realistic price for a 3-4* in the downtown? Any recomendation? Thanks
AaronJB Posted July 10, 2009 Report Posted July 10, 2009 There's no way to specify a room with microwave or kitchen/ette via PRICELINE. So are the confirmed dates now 10/17-24?
redttabby Posted July 11, 2009 Author Report Posted July 11, 2009 Yes, the dates are now 10/17-24. I booked the flight.I think that with Hotwire I have options?
thereuare Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 If you search HOTWIRE for your dates does anything appear within your budget and star rating and shows a Kitchenette icon? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. redttabby Posted July 11, 2009 Author Report Posted July 11, 2009 No, but I suppose if you can guess the hotel, it's possible to know if has kitchen/kitchenette or at least microwave.thanks
thereuare Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 You would likely be looking for a needle in a haystack given that there is no Kitchenette icon shown and that the majority of hotels in this area don't offer this as an amenity. (and not to mention the fact if you need this amenity, what if we guess wrong :) )Since a room on HOTWIRE without knowledge of an included microwave is likely going to be significantly cheaper than booking a room with a microwave direct, you could also consider buying a cheap microwave once you're in the city (Walmart, Target, K-Mart, etc typically have low-end microwaves for ~$50 or so) Even if youbought one for $100, given your 7 nite stay, it's an extra $15/nite added to the cost of your room, which would still likely be less than booking a room direct. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. redttabby Posted July 12, 2009 Author Report Posted July 12, 2009 Thank you, now my wife believe me that was impossible what we were looking for.If you have any recomendation I apreciate it.A room for two adults and two kids (2 and 1 years) in Cgicago downtown, about 100$.Thanks
thereuare Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 At the moment i'm doubtful that $100 will be enough for these dates, but you can (and should) give it a try and hopefully you can prove me wrong... when you mention "Downtown", are both the NMA and Loop zones acceptable? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. redttabby Posted July 13, 2009 Author Report Posted July 13, 2009 Yes, the NMA and Loop zones are acceptable.I'll try, but is more realistic a higher price I think I'll have to accept. Thanks

AaronJB Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 Congrats on your success and thank you for sharing your results with the board. The trip from the O'hare area by "L" train is 50-60 minutes each way; while the hotel in the O'Hare area is cheaper, that's a long and not particularly comfortable trip on the "L" each way each day. Additionally, unless one has a car, there's really nothing much to do around O'Hare. The lowest rate on the hotel website for these dates is $284 per night, so $125 is certainly a significant savings.Thank you for using the site's PRICELINE link to start your purchase.Enjoy your stay.
