pacheco Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 Yesterday, Priceline accepted my bid of $95 for a 3.5* hotel in downtown Philadelphia. The hotel is the Radisson Warwick. The stay is from July 11 to July 15.I was a little bit surprised that the hotel ended-up costing as high as $95, but I'm not complaining. I was hoping for something in the range of $75 a night. For the past two weeks (or so), I have been submitting daily bids for a downtown Philadelphia hotel, and I couldn't get a winning bid. I started at $60 a night, which was obviously too low. I tried only 4* initially, and I increased my bids by $5 every 24 hours (or so). Within the last couple of days, I tried 3.5*, and I opened at $60 for 3.5*. I eventually got to $95.I looked around to see if a convention is in Philadelphia during this time, and I couldn't find anything major. My next move would have been to break-up the stay, which could have led to switching hotels. Obviously, that wasn't a first choice. [Note: I didn't think the other geographic areas of Philadelphia (i.e., the Priceline zones) were all that good for first time vistors like us.]I checked-out the Radisson Warwick, and it seems like a perfectly acceptable hotel for us. The lowest rate at their website for this same time period was around $150 a night. I'm happy with this result. The Radisson is great in that it offers free internet.I'm a long time Priceline user, and I was surprised that Philadelphia was so difficult to get a Priceline hotel -- obviously, it wouldn't have been that difficult if I started at a higher price. I had a similar situation with New York City last summer, but the websites were saying that NYC was tough at that time. I didn't see anything comparable for Philadelphia, but, maybe, this is still considered 4th of July holiday time.Sorry for the rambling message.
AaronJB Posted June 27, 2009 Report Posted June 27, 2009 Congratulations on your success and thank you for sharing your win with the board. Glad you are pleased with the results and that this hotel works for your plans. Sorry that it required a bit higher bid; maybe there is a convention (or a sports game?) happening somewhere. Prices in general in some cities have seemed to go up slightly since the Summer really started. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
