Hello,

I am planning to visit chicago for 2 days : I m going to drive in.

Date of Travel :

Checkin : 3rd July (Friday)

Checkout : 5th July (Sunday)

We are total 3 people and want a room with double bed ofcourse.

I want to visit places like Shedd Aquarium, Sears Tower Skydeck, Navy Pier, Millennium Park, Magnificent Mile, Lincoln Park Zoo.

I checked the price on Hotwire just to get an idea and it showed me cheapest hotel were :

2.5-star hotel in O'Hare Intl Airport ORD South - 41$

3-star hotel in O'Hare Intl Airport ORD North - 49$

I am looking for help and suggestion on following

My Preferences :

---------

1) Don't want to pay too high prices for hotel parking or the places i m planning to visit if good public transportaion is available

2) I dont care about amenities in hotel. Just want it for night rest. My budget is something below 50-55$ for hotel. Since I am driving with my own car I can stay little further but possibly close to area with some good public transportation facility

What do you guys think on which area hotels I should bid on priceline considering my preferences? I would appreciate any other general suggestion on how to plan the trip.

Please advise

TIA

Welcome to BetterBidding!

First "issue" is that PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy... you'll be three. You could receive a room with only one bed and the hotel may be unable, or unwilling, to switch your room to one with two beds. Is this a risk you're willing to accept?

At the sub-$50 range you're likely going to be limited to the airport locations(s) or the suburbs, but keep in mind that this will likely add a little over an hour to your commute time to Downtown, is this acceptable?

Thanks for responding. I understand that risk. I could take the risk if my price range is somewhere in acceptable range. Is Hotwire a better option in that way then? I believe I am getting 3* in ORD North for 45$ right now on Hotwire. Do they gurantee 3 person accomodation?

On Priceline if I select any of below 2 areas, are all hotels in these area going to charge for parking?

HOTWIRE allows you to search for up to quad occupancy and guarantees sleeping accomodations for everyone you include on your search.

Most hotels in airport area are going to charge for parking.

I'd wait for AaronJB to see this thread who will be able to comment better on your options in the suburbs and add some information regarding your airport zone options.

I'd recommend not using the airport hotels, given that they will likely charge for parking.

I'd recommend either:

3* Northbrook (fitness, pool, restaurant, business, laundry, internet) $49 (likely the Radisson)

or:

3* Buffalo Grove-Arlington Heights North (Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Business, Golf, Tennis, Laundry) $35 (likely the Indigo Palatine)

Both of these hotels are within a reasonable drive of a Metra (metrarail.com) train station. Taking the Metra trains into the city is a lot nicer than taking the CTA "L" train from the airport.

Thanks for responding. I like the suburb idea. What do you think about the Oak Brook area and the Doubletree Hotel in Oak Brook? I was looking at maps and this suburb looked little better located..Is dobletree better compared to Indigo Palantine? I am planning on taking some risk and bidding on PRICELINE. Will see how the double bed thing works out..

Do you know what are the commutation options once I get into downtown chicago? The places i want to visit are sears towr, navy pier, magnificent mile, lincon zoo etc and was looking for quick commute ideas between these places

Thanks
