PPhloyd Posted June 29, 2009 Author Report Posted June 29, 2009 Any recommendations for 'must-see' places and dining while we're in the area? Apologies if this is the wrong section to post this query!
thereuare Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Will you be heading to Ann Arbor or staying about Livonia? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
PPhloyd Posted June 29, 2009 Author Report Posted June 29, 2009 Most of the stay will be centered in Ann Arbor - Livonia is just the night-stop. We will have all three nights, the second half of Saturday and most of Sunday free, so need to find things to do :)
thereuare Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Well it's been awhile and none of these are fancy but here's places i hope hit when i return:Zingermans - quality sandwiches... but you pay for it too. They get the best of whatever ingredient it is and do it well. Expect sandwiches in the $12-$16 range... my favorite is the #18 Georgia Reuben but if you like corned beef and/or pastrami they do that well too! Rivals many NYC delis (although different) and i favor their grilled sandwichesKrazy Jim's Blimpy Burger - "slider" type of greasy burger joint where you can get one combination of ~20-30 offered toppings (everything from different types of musterds to grilled onions to a friend egg)Be Bim Bob - a Korean "leftover dish" with a bed of rice, some vegetables, and a friend eggon top. Steve's Lunch, who introduced Korean food to the masses in Ann Arbor is now gone, but the a few doors down "Coffee Break" i think has taken the torch and (last i checked) the place to get this (NOTE: depending upon your stomach tolerance you may/may not want to venture into this)Stucchi's - great homemade frozen yogurt (and ice cream)If your into breakfast, some swear by Angelo's (near the Med Center) for brunch, although i've never been enough of a fan to consistently wait on the line on a Sunday morning.Nothing spectacular other than reasonably priced food, but if you're looking for a "college atmosphere" either the Brown Jug (more diner-like) or Cottage Inn (very good square pizza with reasonably good other stuff) will give fit the bill.Probably dozens of other places since i've been up there, but i'd venture all the above are still solid choices.
