bluebird971 Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 A couple of my friends and I are doing a gals weekend for one night, 7/18-19 in Chicago -- we want to stay near Michigan Ave. I went to Hotwire and got no results for N. Michigan Ave in the 3*+ range. I expanded to Streeterville and got only two results -- a 4* for $153 and a 3* for $119. Ideally we would like to stay in a suite (but not a requirement), and I believe that Hotwire only offers the Embassy Suites (which would be Streeterville), but nothing with a "suite" under amenities showed up in my first search. Should I wait until it gets closer to the date, will that open up more options? Is "suite" listed under amenities or something else? Any help and suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!
AaronJB Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Welcome to the site.Hotels do not appear for all dates; it's very possible that the ES will not be available on HOTWIRE for these dates.Rather than the 4* for $153 on HOTWIRE, I'd rather suggest going to the Intercontinental Hotels site (please use the site's link here and searching for the Intercontinental Chicago. When attempting to book, type in "HLC" in the "Group Code" section before clicking to search for availability. There should be a 2 bed room in the Historic Tower (which is considered an upgrade) for $159.The HOTWIRE 4* property for these dates showing for $154 is likely the Sheraton. I'd much rather recommend an upgraded room at the Intercontinental for $5 more. Not sure what's going on on these dates, but prices do seem a little higher than usual. If you do want to be right on Michigan Ave., the Intercontinental is directly on Michigan Ave, near the river.
bluebird971 Posted June 24, 2009 Author Report Posted June 24, 2009 Thank you for the information. I went to the Intercontinental's site through your link, but it states that the dates I selected are unavailable. There must be something going on that weekend in the city (but I can't seem to figure out what it is). Which probably either means that hotels are blocking out rooms for whatever event it is and that maybe rooms will be available closer to the date, or that I should book something now or else be completely out of luck if I wait until closer to the date.
AaronJB Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 If you enter the group code mentioned above and click search anyways on the Intercontinental website, availability does come up.I'm guessing this may be due to the hotel requiring a multi-night stay to check-in on this date via regular rates, but possibly not for the promotional code. Either way, availability does come up (and an upgrade, no less) if you insert the "HLC" code into the group rate box if you are interested in staying at this property.
bluebird971 Posted June 24, 2009 Author Report Posted June 24, 2009 OK, thanks very much for the tip, I will try that and report back on what we ended up with.
anwankwo Posted June 25, 2009 Report Posted June 25, 2009 i as well am looking for a hotel for the weekend of July18th through 19th. I wanted the cheapest deal possible on a four star and above hotel in the magnificent mile or streeterville area. I like the one you listed above for intercontinental for 159.00 a night...is there anyway possible to get a hotel of this calibur for cheaper than 159.00 a night? The HLC promo code that you gave...what codes exist for other hotel sites that I can use? for example, are there any promo codes for Trump Tower hotels? Also, there are no pictures for the intercontinental two double bed historic tower 159.00 room that is listed with the HLC code...is this room a suite, is it big, is it two bedrooms..the website doesnt give a good idea of how the room looksThanx
