Thanks for doing this site I have been following for a few weeks working on my strategy. I was waiting to start my bidding for a hotel in NYC as it's not until October. Should I start now or is it better to wait, it seems most hotels are more focused on the best deals for summer not fall. thoughts?

Welcome to the site.

It depends on budget, dates (rates are date-specific, and if something is going on, rates are going to be higher) and desired area of the city. October's generally a popular time of year in NYC for business traffic and it's actually a pretty nice time weather-wise (not too hot, not too cold.)

There's also no way to predict whether occupancy rates will rise or fall - if you decide to wait, there is the possibility that one day rates will jump higher or deals (such as those on HOTWIRE) will no longer be showing.

What would be your max budget per night & desired area/s?

For a further discussion regarding bidding early or late see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.

In regards to bidding the above, is the MTW zone the only zone you're willing to accept? Most midtown zones (MTE, MTW, Times Square, CSP, and for some ESB) work out fine for typical visitor, and the more zones you include the more hotels have the ability to accept your bid, which can results in a lower price.

Let us know if MTW is the only zone you're willing to accept or if there are others which are acceptable, we'll then suggest a bidding strategy for you to follow.
