focus_d17 Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 Hey there fellow members, new to betterbidding, but I have gotten a chance to read through a lot of topics, so I have a general idea of the bidding system on PriceLine.I recently booked a stay at the Courtyard by Marriott in Meadowvale. I won at $35 and, for some reason, do not remember the dates, or even the system I used to win. I just recall being rejected on two occasions, then lowering my star rating, and voila! So here is my dilemma now, I keep seeing posts that people are winning nights at Four Points by Sheraton for between $25 and $35 dollars. Are these people actually having an opportunity to pick the specific hotel, or is it at random? I have been trying my luck for that hotel for the last hour now, and I have run out of bids :) Any tips for an appropriate sequence of bids, because the entire time I was in fear that I would get a hotel booked that was like an hour away from me.Any advice would be greatly appreciated,Thanks!
AaronJB Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 Welcome to the site.I'm not sure where Mississauga is - I don't see any reported wins for it in Canada. When searching on PRICELINE, is this an area that you are seeing available for bidding?PRICELINE wins are date-specific and city specific. Unless the post in question (and I'm not sure which you are referring to) is for your dates and the location that you are looking for, then it's not a valid comparison.
tilepusher Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 There are several 3* hotels in Mississauga (and you could potentially get any one of them through Name Your Own Price), but the Four Points appears to have the lowest Priceline rates on most days, and therefore is reported most often. We'll need to know your check-in/check-out dates before we can give you any specific advice about bidding strategy.
focus_d17 Posted June 22, 2009 Author Report Posted June 22, 2009 Hey,thank you for your quick responses, I cannot say the same about myself lol. Well, Mississauga is a city that is available, yes! But you are right, it is hard to compare to other peoples wins because their dates may not be comparable to the dates I require.I am looking to book two nights from 07/16-07/18, so that would be a Thurs/Fri night stay.I know that there are a number of 3* hotels in Mississauga, so I may not even have the opportunity to get the Four Points, but I'm trying to stay optimistic about it.Thanks a lot for your help so far guys! :)
thereuare Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 I recently booked a stay at the Courtyard by Marriott in Meadowvale. I won at $35...Can you see if this win still appears in your profile by going to the top right of PRICELINE's home page and clicking the MY PROFILE>>MY TRIPS. From there you can see the star rating, hotel name, dates, winning bid amount, etc and share your win with the board. So if i understand correctly you're looking for a 3* hotel in the Mississauga zone for 7/16-7/18? If so, let us know your maximum bid for this stay and we'll suggest a strategy for your to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. focus_d17 Posted June 22, 2009 Author Report Posted June 22, 2009 Hi thereuare,I just posted my stay on the board. In regards to my stay during 07/16/09-07/18/09, my max bid would be $35 dollars. I know it does depend on the dates, the days of the week, and the availability but I've seen ALOT of people winning bids for between $25-$35, so I am keeping my hopes up!Thanks a lot!
thereuare Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 What has been your highest bid so far... have you bid at high as $35/nite?Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. focus_d17 Posted July 5, 2009 Author Report Posted July 5, 2009 Hi Thereuare,The highest that I have gotten up to is $35/night, which has been declined. I actually have not tried since then, so any suggestions on bidding patterns for my next try?Max $35 a night for 3* and only for Mississauga. Thanks!
thereuare Posted July 5, 2009 Report Posted July 5, 2009 If $35 is your maximum bid then there isn't much more that you can do, but i think you've touched upon the issue:I know it does depend on the dates, the days of the week, and the availability but I've seen ALOT of people winning bids for between $25-$35There have only been two wins reported to the board under $35 in the last three years (the most recent one of the two over a year ago) and many more examples of it taking more than $45.If you're not successful at $35 or under, what will you do for this stay? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
