TN Nashville aloft Cool Springs

aloft Cool Springs is located in Franklin, about 20 minutes south of downtown Nashville. The newer hotel caters to a young, hip crowd and the decor reflects that.

The lobby has a pool table, a double side fireplace and a lit bar. The night we were there an acoustic indie duo performed in the lobby and people gathered outside on the modular furniture on the patio. I think the hotel is designed to guests will will congregate in the lobby and the rooms are a part of this. Drinks and food are available but overpriced.

The small room will feel either one of two ways to you: 1) a modern, spare and restful space or 2) a prison cell. I tended to feel the latter as I like a more traditional space. The only "furniture" in the room was the platform bed, a bench positioned under the wall TV and unusable due to lack of head space, a "desk" (a wooden strip jutting off the wall) and a rolling desk chair. There is a flat screen TV mounted across from the bed but no other art adorns the dark blue and grey walls. There is a shower only with a glass door. The bathroom door is a sliding partition so privacy may be an issue for some.

We asked for a double room but as the hotel was full, the only room available was a King. The staff brought up an air mattress and a blanket. The mattress had a hole and they couldn't locate another so the kids slept on the floor until another room became available. The Two Doubles room is larger and feels less claustrophobic. There is a mini fridge but ours didn't work well. Ice can be obtained at the front desk but we couldn't find an ice bucket or any container in the room suitable to chill beverages.

Overall, for a couple or single who prefers modern, spare decor, this hotel will be a favorite. But it's not set up for families and I'll definitely stay elsewhere next visit.
