Hi. We are travelling to Chicago on 6/11/09 to 8/11/09. It's our first time in Chicago so can you please recommend which area is best to stay. We won't have a car so will be walking around. I am looking for 3.5* or 4* hotels - budget not more than $100. Since it is quite a few months away, I'd like to know what my options are before I start bidding - my first bid as well! Thank you.

Welcome to the site. In Chicago on PRICELINE, the downtown area is split into the Millennium Park/Loop/Grant Park area (South of the River) and the River North/North Michigan Ave. area (North of the River). On HOTWIRE, there is the Loop area (South of the River), The Mag Mile/Streeterville area (around the river and to the North of it) and the NMA/Water Tower/Gold Coast area (the North half of the Michigan Ave. shopping area.

It's generally recommended that one stay in an area North of the River, as this area is more lively at night, while on the other hand, a good deal of the Loop essentially closes up later in the evening.

With a PRICELINE bid for the River North/North Michigan Ave. area, I'd start at $80. If $80 is not accepted, try $85 24 hours later, $90 24 hours later if $85 isn't accepted.

I would usually suggest options from discount service HOTWIRE, but the HOTWIRE website is not working at all this morning.

Please use the site's PRICELINE link to start your bidding.

Used your advice, began with NMA area at $80, rejected; tried again 24 hours later at $85, got Westin Michigan Avenue.

Very happy. Thank you so much for your help. :)
