dowens86 Posted June 20, 2009 Author Report Posted June 20, 2009 I wouldn't recommend the Crowne for anyone staying in the Asheville area. The hotel is REALLY hard to find and it's waay old. Priceline has it listed as a resort, I don't think so! I feel like I got ripped off. The Doubletree Biltmore is what I was bidding for. Oh well...... Next time I will only do 4* or better.
AaronJB Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 Sorry to hear your stay was disappointing. :)
dowens86 Posted June 20, 2009 Author Report Posted June 20, 2009 I may have over reacted a bit :) The rooms are pretty clean except for the carpet needs to be replaced (it's really yucky). The beds are comfy and the bathrooms are updated with granite. They still use the old TV's which I don't care about. I wouldn't worry about bringing your golf clubs, the putting greens are an inch thick. Oh yeah, and they the pool is closed. Another pet-peeve of mine is that the previous guest's room service trays have been next to my door for two days. BUT... the location is pretty close to shopping and downtown also the Sams Club is about a block away :). Just be prepared to get really confused when your trying to find the place. If you don't have a GPS, get one!The staff is very nice and no mention of priceline. They also put me in a 4th floor end-unit facing the mountains. Let's just say I would be HIGHLY disappointed if I paid the full price of $140. You can stay at the new Homewood suites for that.
JanetNC Posted June 20, 2009 Report Posted June 20, 2009 Thanks for the comment on my 4* bid..it's pretty exciting to finally have that option in Asheville on PRICELINE. I agree with most of your comments about the Crown Plaza (we stayed there a few years ago for $60) OK for that price, but... Renovations of old hotels sometimes just never work. You probably tried this, but did you check HOTWIRE as an alternative to PRICELINE? Sometimes close to check-in can get better rates than PL. I helped a friend on Fri 6/5 bid for the next night, Sat 6/6, but Hotwire had a 3* for $48! By amenities and using the BB list, it was indeed the new Holiday Inn on Tunnel Road. Some reviews complain HI too is an odd location at the very edge of "DT", but my friend thought it wonderful. Great staff, a "mineral" indoor/outdoor pool, location really not far if have car and know the roads. Today, for next Wednesday, it is on HOTWIRE for $79.
dowens86 Posted June 21, 2009 Author Report Posted June 21, 2009 Yea, I actually booked my room the night before my stay. I wasn't so sure what Hotwire would give me. This was my first time using this website and the links. My next destination will be Orlando or St. Pete. I can't wait to see what I get!!
dowens86 Posted June 21, 2009 Author Report Posted June 21, 2009 I just noticed that I didn't post my travel dates. Jun 19th and June 20th.
