July09Bride Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 There are two hotels I've seen posted as 4* in Waikiki Beach Area. By clicking on the HOTWIRE link "SEE ALL AMENITES" there are a couple of differences.August 15 - 19 shows...Beachfront Fitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s) Business CenterLaundry FacilitiesChildren's Activity Program(No trip Advisor info)If we change to August 1 - 5 shows...ResortBeachfrontFitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s)Business CenterLaundry FacilitiesHigh-speed Internet AccessChildren's Activity Program(Trip Advisor says 520+ reviews)I'm certain one of these is the Sheraton Waikiki and I'm guessing the other is the Outrigger Waikiki... I just can't tell which hotel is which. My best guess? The top is the Outrigger and the bottom is the Sheraton. Anyone have any ideas? Our dates are totally flexible within the month of August! We'd just like to keep the Saturday to Wednesday combination of dates. =)
thereuare Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 There is a chance that they're both the same hotel but using a different set of amenity icons depending upon some criteria of the search.See this Hotwire Waikiki thread where the user showed the amenities you listed for the for the second hotel when they searched this morning, and when i searched this evening for their same dates i see the amenities you're showing for the first hotel... both 'their' hotel and 'my' hotel are at the same price! It could be two different hotels, but i'm speculating that it's the same hotel with a different set of amenity icons. If it's the Sheraton Waikiki you're looking for i would try to purchase the second listing you provided as those are the amenities the Sheraton has been reported with before and it provides Tripadvisor info which is consistent with that property. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know what you decide and how it goes or if we can be of further help. July09Bride Posted June 18, 2009 Author Report Posted June 18, 2009 For our hotel information, I went through your HOTWIRE link to find these properties. In truth, I was actually hoping for the Outrigger Waikiki.I was unaware that a hotel property would use a different set of amenity icons, albeit for the same property. HOTWIRE may be getting tricky on us!Interestingly enough, the top listing (Aug. 15-19) showed the children's activities icon, but the bottom listing (Aug. 1-5) did not... although both were listed when clicking on the SEE MORE AMENITIES.Veryyyyy interesting.I will keep looking and make have to make a determination/decision soon. As soon as I do, I will defintely post the outcome here and in the Calendar of Wins, as well.Thank you!
July09Bride Posted June 18, 2009 Author Report Posted June 18, 2009 So, I go do the same search today and a different 4* shows up that I haven't seen before.Aug 1-5 for 1 room 2 adults for $119/night (This has become my fiance's date preference due to work.)Fitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s)Business CenterLaundry FacilitiesHigh-speed Internet Access (No trip Advisor info)This does not say beachfront, which, if it did, would lead me to believe that this is the Outrigger Waikiki (the one I actually want - LOL), which is why this won't be the Outrigger Waikiki. I actually believe it might be the Hawaii Prince?Aug 15-19 for 1 room 2 adults for $135/night(same as before)BeachfrontFitness CenterPool(s)Restaurant(s) Business CenterLaundry FacilitiesChildren's Activity Program(No trip Advisor info)So, again I'm guessing the bottom listing is the Outrigger Waikiki, but now my fiance' needs the dates of August 1 - 5, because of his work. =(
AaronJB Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 As an alternate idea, Orbitz.com has the Hawaii Prince Hotel for $126.75 per night (4th night free deal) and if you use deal0hotel coupon code, you get 10% off. This is for 8/1-5. The nice aspect of this would be that if a better deal comes along between now and then you could cancel (albeit with a $25 cancel fee; be sure to read the fine print for exact cancelation policy.)Please use the site's Orbitz.com link if this is of interest.
July09Bride Posted June 18, 2009 Author Report Posted June 18, 2009 As much as I wanted the Outrigger Waikiki, there is nothing ever "for sure" when bidding basically blind. So, I thought I would try priceline and go for resorts only, since that is where we both kept leaning, when it came to what we wanted. Here is my PRICELINE journey.Try #1I started with Waikiki Beach for $85. Not AcceptedTried again for $90 with adding downtown Honolulu. Not Accepted.Closed Browser and started again.Try #2Waikiki with Executive Center for $95. Not Accepted.PL offered me a rebid if I added $22 to my bid. I turned it down.Added Downtown Honolulu for $100.Accepted. Won the Sheraton Waikiki on Waikiki Beach for $100/night (total price $464.79) for four nights, August 1 - 5, 2009.Thanks for the rebid instructions throughout the BB website!
AaronJB Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Certainly a very nice discount off regular rate for this property on these dates.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using the site's PRICELINE link to start your purchase.Enjoy your honeymoon! :)
