sarasotatraveler Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 After 2 weeks of bidding, rebidding for a 4*, I got the Hilton downtown on Richmond Street for $76. Was very disappointed to find out that Expedia/Hotels.com prices the same room for $88. So a savings of $12. Not the 30%-50% discounted or slashed rates heavily advertised by William Shatner on U.S. TV every couple of hours. (I recognize its summer in the city and I am aware that Expedia owns TripAdvisor, PLine, etc. etc.) Just disappointed that I didn't get a bigger savings and I got a hotel ranked 50 out of 110 in TripAdvisor. In the end, its all about luck!
tilepusher Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding, sarasotatraveler.Sorry that you didn't get a better deal. $76 was a rather high bid, given the rates for the Hilton on Expedia (which owns Hotwire, not Priceline, by the way) and the winning bids for Downtown Toronto that have been reported here recently; I'm surprised that none of your lower bids were accepted. Please give us the check-in/check-out dates so that we can add this to the Calendar of Wins. Also, could you please give us more details about your bidding history for this stay? Perhaps we can offer some suggestions that will help you with future bids.
sarasotatraveler Posted June 18, 2009 Author Report Posted June 18, 2009 Sorry, I missed the dates in my post, June 25-June 27, 2009. Two weeks ago I started the bid at $50 for a 4*, and re-bid in increments including Toronto East. No responses. I'd wait 2-3 days and try again, and or up the bid. Then wait again. This is a gift weekend for family, had to make the reservation this week. I've used P/L for five years now, and love it, but recognize there is a large element of luck. At least for me.
