mrskb Posted June 14, 2009 Report Posted June 14, 2009 Hello,I am trying to book hotel 2 rooms at a hotel in eiether midtown west or times square. I am hoping for the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers, as I have stayed there before and liked it! I have bid up to $125 and have not won yet, and really don't want to spend more than that, especially when I see people are getting it for $110. Does anybody know if there is anything on in NYC those days, or if it's maybe too early to be bidding for those dates?Any tips would be helpful!!THANKS!
thereuare Posted June 14, 2009 Report Posted June 14, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding!Rates are not that high for these dates, it's just that the $110 rates we had seen a few weeks/months ago were only during extremely low occupancy... rates have begun to inch up slightly and the ultra-low rates are not as easy to come by as they were just a few weeks ago (although rates are still excellent in NYC by historical standards)If you scan the Priceline Forum you'll see that there are quite a few 4* wins in the $130's and $140's, something we didn't see too much of a few weeks earlier. It's also possible that it's still early and hotels are holding back the very deep discounts until closer to check-in date in hopes of selling more rooms themselves (at higher rates and higher margins), but i'm guessing at the moment it will take a littl emore than you're currently bidding. I'll also add that adding other zones which may be acceptable (such as MTE and/or CPS) would likely improve your chances, and while $125 may still prove to be too low at the moment, it probably puts you within $10-$15 of a win, i'm guessing. Thanks for using our PRICELINE links to begin your bidding.Let us know what you decide and how you'd like to proceed or if we can be of further help. mrskb Posted June 14, 2009 Author Report Posted June 14, 2009 Just bid $130 on MTW or Times Square and got the Royalton. Not really what I was hoping for, but that was mainly because I didn't know much about the hotel. Really wanted Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers. I rand the Royalton to request at least one room with 2 dbl beds as 2 guys are sharing and they said they are booked out, but will try and get a king bed for one, otherwise can use a rollaway bed. Wasn't really what I wanted to hear, but c'est la vie I guess. Anybody have good experiences with this hotel? Am reading trip advisor now.
cabara Posted June 14, 2009 Report Posted June 14, 2009 I just got the Sheraton Hotel and Towers for July 4 at $127, so you might be within a couple of dollars of getting it.
AaronJB Posted June 14, 2009 Report Posted June 14, 2009 Congratulations on your win and thank you for sharing your results with the board. The Royalton is a recently renovated boutique property that gets mostly good reviews. PRICELINE reservations do not guarantee 2 beds. Certainly a good deal though, with a $275 regular rate on the hotel website. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
thereuare Posted June 15, 2009 Report Posted June 15, 2009 It's easy to bypass this hotel but once you walk-in the lobby is very impressive. The lobby bar is recommended for a drink and is a favorite among many... but expect typical high-end NYC prices.
