Priceline Hotel: 4* Chicago (Millenium-Loop-Grant Park) Fairmont Chicago

Three nights at the Fairmont Chicago beginning 8/7/09.

I started bidding at $55 and worked up in $5 increments (over several consecutive 24 hr periods), and finally got a room at $130! :-(

Lollapalooza is that weekend, but there must be something else going on as well. Hotwire has no hotels available at all in the Loop / Grant Park area for that time period.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Congratulations on your success and thank you for sharing your results with the board. Although higher than we've seen lately for Chicago, looks like a very good deal given the limited availability.

Enjoy your stay.

Lollapalooza is what's creating the demand for these dates. Loop hotels are going to be more expensive during these dates, because people going to the concert want to be closer to Lollapalooza and they don't want to have to walk from the Michigan Ave. area.

If you have to stay in the Loop though, the Fairmont is one of the nicest hotels in the area. Since this is a PRICELINE reservation it isn't eligible for upgrades, but if you haven't already, I'd sign up for the Fairmont President's Club rewards program on their website. Free to sign up for, and while it may not help if you asked for a "view" room at check-in, it's at least free to try.

I'm really surprised this was the result, given how close it is to Grant Park. While most sites seem to have no availability for Sat/Sun, the Fairmont website's lowest rate is $279 for all 3 nights, so this certainly seems like a great deal.

Thanks for posting your win, and please use the site's HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links to start future purchases.

Enjoy your stay.

The reason I say that there must be something other than Lollapalooza going on is because last year we went to Lolla and booked around this time via Priceline and got a room at the Renaissance in the Loop for $70/night. The result this year was even more surprising because all indications are that this year's headliners (Depeche Mode, Beastie Boys, Tool) will be much lesser draws than those that played in 2008 (Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails).

Anyway, thanks for the replies, and for running this great site. I will definitely be using your PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links when booking.

Also, thanks for the President's Club tip! I've been a member of all of the major chains' customer loyalty programs for many years and usually take advantage of them when I travel, but was not aware of Fairmont's offering.

There are two major conferences, Academy of Management and American Marketing Association, both drawing 1000s of attendees... in fact, Fairmont is one of the conference hotels and the conference rate is 195 (as single), 205 (as double).

Congrats on your result!
