Cheapstay Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 I initially bid $75 for 4 rooms at a 4* Downtown on 6/19-6/20. PRICELINE came back saying that if I add $22 I can re-bid with the same criteria. So I rebid at $97 and got the Westin. That's cool because I was planning to book the Westin via HOTWIRE for $107. So saved $10 each for 4 rooms (bachelor party - headed to a Phils game). I guess I was inspired to use Priceline by the previous poster getting The Loews hotel for $75 - so thanks KatiesMom for saving me a couple of bucks (even if I didn't also get it for $75)! On a separate note, when Priceline asks you to re-bid with the same criteria but for more money - is it a sucker move to take the bait? I'm not worried, because I'm satisfied with my win, but for future purchases...Used the PRICELINE link for my purchase.
thereuare Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see you received a nice deal at this property and that you're happy with the results. The "increase your bid by $22" is what we refer to as a counter-offer, and while i wouldn't call it a 'suckers move to take the bait', you can usually undercut teh counter-offer by using re-bid zones (Priceline Re-Bidding Explained) or by waiting out the 24 hours lock-out period (but of course by waiting you also run the risk that the rooms won't be available when you try again in 24 hours). You can read more about counter-offers in this Priceline Suggests Price to Pay thread.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay and have fun at the bachelor party. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Cheapstay Posted June 12, 2009 Author Report Posted June 12, 2009 Thanks for the info and the links to the discussions - there's some great information on this site. I suspected I could undercut the counter-offer by re-bidding or waiting 24-hours. But I still got a better deal than I was originally hoping to pay - $70 less than through the hotel, and $10 less than HOTWIRE. Now I'm better trained for my next duel with PRICELINE...thanks again!
