aa8833 Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 We (2 adults) will go to Quebec City from July 3~5. Hotwire rate for 4* is $131 per nightHotwire rate for 3.5* is $135 per nightUsusally I would think 4* should be more expensive. Does anyone know why it is not the case on Hotwire? I saw Hilton in Hotwire's package, which looks nice. But I am not sure I should get 3.5* or 4* to increase the possibility to get Hilton?Could anyone help identify what the 4* and 3.5* hotels could be?Amenities are the same for 3.5* and 4*, which include : Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurants, High-speed Internet Access, and Business Center. Thanks a lot!
CRDUDE Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 I am trying to get Quebec City for the 5th to the 7th.The 4* is more than likely Loews Le Concorde. If you read Trip Advisor, everyone says that it needs a renovation really bad. The Hilton has been a 4*, but I have not seen a winning post in like 8 months. I also noticed that the Hilton is listed as a 3.5 star on the Priceline website if you want to book it with out the Bid your Own Price. Hilton gets good reviews on trip advisor and its close to Old Quebec. The Delta is a 3.5* that has been won on Priceline many times and the reviews on trip advisor are good. Close to Old Quebec as well. Some of the 3* hotels in Quebec City sound like dumps and the location could not be the greatest.I think the best play is to bid on Priceline for a 3.5* only for Quebec City. You will more than likely get the Delta... but you may just get the Hilton.I have bid up to $80 for the 5th-7th of July with no luck yet.Try bidding $75, if that does not work add another zone and try $81. If that fails, go for $85.The only zone that has 3.5 and 4* is Downtown. You can use all the other zones for free bids.
CRDUDE Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 I tried $81 and $85 this morning on Priceline for the 5th-7th... no dice. 3.5*
AaronJB Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 CRdude, please post your travel details (bids, etc.) for the 7/5-7 in a new/separate thread. Thanks.aa8833, hotels set their own rates as they see fit for the occupancy rates/inventory/etc for their particular property, which may lead to lower prices than lower-rated hotels at times. It's not just HOTWIRE, as in major cities it's not uncommon to see a particular 3* or multiple 3*'s have regular rates higher than some of the available 4*'s.The 4* is likely the Lowes, while the 3.5* likely the Delta. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.
thereuare Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 aa8833,Each property sets their own rates so it's not uncommon to see a lower star rated hotel priced higher than a higher star rated hotel... an example using the following sceario:4* hotel regular rate $200 but few booking for a specific date (low occupancy)3.5* hotel regular rate $150 but big wedding event that weekend with lots of out of town guests (higher occupancy... but not 100% full/sold-out)The 4* may really want bookings for this particular nite and decide to provide a deep discout to the opaque providers of 50%, bringing their opaque rate to $100, while the 3.5* could use the extra business, but it's already going to be a 'good' revenue nite based upon their current bookings, so they offer a 20% discount to the opaque providers in order to try to get a little extra business. The result of the above:4* hotel = $100/nite3.5* hotel = $120/niteIn regards to the two hotels above, the 4* is a match for the Hilton (slight chance it could be the Loews, but i think the Hilton is much more likely) while the 3.5* is a match for the Delta Quebec so that would be our best guess for each. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
