hgoldi Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 We are a family (2 adults and 2 teenagers) coming from abroad. It is our first time in Chicago (and also with HOTWIRE!) so I would apprecciate your help.WE are loking to book an hotel in downtown Chicago arriving the 22 of september for 3 nights. We are getting:4 star at Magnificent Mile for 129$2/5 star in Lake view Lincoln park for 82$Could you help me with these findings? We also contacted the Days inn, and the offer us a room with two queen beds for 98( without taxes).Any way of comparing these different offers?Or perhaps you have other recommendations? Thanks in advance!
AaronJB Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 Good morning and welcome to the site. While Lincoln Park is a nice area, it's not a central location and the few hotels there are quite basic. It's great to visit, but I wouldn't really recommend staying there. What are the amenities listed with the HOTWIRE listings that you are seeing for these dates?
hgoldi Posted June 11, 2009 Author Report Posted June 11, 2009 Good morning and welcome to the site. While Lincoln Park is a nice area, it's not a central location and the few hotels there are quite basic. It's great to visit, but I wouldn't really recommend staying there. What are the amenities listed with the HOTWIRE listings that you are seeing for these dates?Thank you for your response! The amenities listed for the 4 stars hotel in Magnificent area are, 129$ the room are:Boutique hotel, smoke free rooms, fitness center, restaurants, business center, high speed internet access. Do you think is a good price? What is you opinion about the Days inn? Or do you have another recommendation? thanks a lot!
AaronJB Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 The Days Inn is a basic 2.5* in Lincoln Park. It's not a bad property as Days Inns go, but it's nothing special. Again, as mentioned, while Lincoln Park is a very nice area and worth visiting, it's not a central location. A 4* in the Mag Mile/Streeterville area with Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, Business is likely the Hotel Sax.If you are looking for an inexpensive hotel, the 2.5* Days Inn would work, but you would have a trek to downtown attractions. The Hotel Sax would be a more upscale 4* in the middle of downtown, right on the river for about $30 more per night.Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be anything of interest in-between those two options.Using the site's HOTWIRE link is greatly appreciated.
hgoldi Posted June 12, 2009 Author Report Posted June 12, 2009 Thanks again for this usefull information! Do you recommend the Sax? As this is my first time using hotwire, I would like to know if it is possible that in the future new hotels will appear or the list I am getting now is the final one?
AaronJB Posted June 12, 2009 Report Posted June 12, 2009 I'd recommend the Sax; it's the former House of Blues Hotel (the House of Blues concert hall is still next to the hotel) and a hip boutique property. The two teens will probably like it a lot - there's also a beautiful bowling alley next to the hotel, as well. The River North area around the hotel has a lot of great restaurant options, and it's a short walk to Michigan Ave. New hotels may appear on the search at times while others disappear. There will always be only 1 hotel listing at each available star level in each area. There's also the chance that listings simply disappear and will not be replaced (if traffic for these dates picks up.) Prices can also rise without notice.
hgoldi Posted June 12, 2009 Author Report Posted June 12, 2009 Thanks again for your help!We decided to wait and hope for better offers in the future.

thereuare Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 hgoldi,What is it that you're looking for from this stay? You started above with a 4* Downtown hotel at $129/nite and decided to wait for a 'better' deal... but the hotels you have asked about since then are all higher priced.Exactly what is it that you're trying to find in a hote for this trip? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. hgoldi Posted June 23, 2009 Author Report Posted June 23, 2009 Oh! yes, you are right that it does not look rational. We are looking for a 4 or 3 stars hotel . Concerning the 129$ 4 stars hotel you mentioned, we did not like the Sax , so decided to try again.
thereuare Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 It's not necessarily irrational but more so trying to help you find what you're looking for. For example, what about the Hotel Sax is it that you didn't like? What do you want from the hotel?Best guess for the HOTWIRE property above is the Millennium Knickerbocker. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. hgoldi Posted June 23, 2009 Author Report Posted June 23, 2009 Thank you for your response!About the Sax we read some reviews at tripadvisor that some rooms are dark and small and that in general the atmosphere is "funky and party" which is not our taste.
thereuare Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 Does the Millennium Knickerbocker work for your needs? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
