Hi there,

Wanting to stay at either Waikiki Central or Waikiki Beach areas for the dates:

29th August to 1st September 2009

Looking for 3 star accommodation.

I've bid $60 for the above areas in the 3 star range and it was rejected.

I'd really love some help with this as I've never used PRICELINE before and the more money I save on the hotel the more Mum and I have to spend on our girls' long weekend away!!!

Oops sorry!

I'm going with my Mum so we're needing 1 room with 2 beds (I don't know if there is an option for that before one actually purchases).

The maximum we're prepared to spend would be $80 but like I mentioned before, the more we save on our hotel the more spending money we'll have.

You can't guarantee two beds. PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy... after that it's at the discretion of the hotel. You can read more about this in the related links in our PRICELINE FAQ.

If you need (vs. want) two beds you can accomplish this by using HOTWIRE and searching for triple occupancy which would ensure separate sleeping accomodations for both of you... but the second 'bed' could be a pullout sofabed, rollaway cot brought into the room, etc. If you search HOTWIRE for your dates does anything appear within in your budget (besides searching HOTWIRE for 3adults also try searching for 2adults/1chid which may show different offerings and/or be a cheaper than a 3adults search)

At the 3* level you have TWO re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 3* Waikiki Beach...

Bid $45, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $50, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $55, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access priceline.

Select 3* Waikiki Central...

Bid $45, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $50, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $55, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access priceline.

Select 3* Waikiki Beach and Waikiki Central...

Thank you for that...just a couple of questions to see if I've got this free re-bid thing right...

So if I bid $45 for a 3* hotel in Waikiki City Central and it's rejected I could then up my bid for the same zone/star rating by adding a zone which does not offer 3* hotels, in this case HNL Airport...

so I increase my bid to $50 with the extra zone knowing that there is no 3* in that zone so Priceline's system will automatically go for a hotel in the original zone, Waikiki City Central.

Then if this bid is rejected I up my bid to $55 and add Ilihani in the area section again knowing that there are no 3* hotels thus giving me another free bid at the Waikiki City Central area.

If rejected again I increase my bid to $60 and add Oahu North Shore following the reasoning above.

I could then add Waianae using the previous reasoning.

From what I've read in the Bidding Again before 24 hours thread this is how I think the free re-bid works.

Have I got it right or am I completely off track?

You mentioned I had 2 re-bid zones so I'm thinking that I may have it wrong since I've found what I think are 4 re-bid zones...

I've just had what Oprah calls a 'light bulb moment'...and I think I'm wrong about the 4 re-bid zones that I thought I was ever so clever finding... :)

You're saying I have 2 re-bid zones because they are zones that do not have LOWER star hotels than what I'm wanting.

If I were to add HNL Airport like I was stupidly going to do, it does not have 3* properties but it DOES have lower * hotels and I could very well end up with a 2* property out near the airport for what I'm bidding for a 3* in Waikiki City Central!

Now am I right? :)

Not quite there yet (but we'll have no problem getting you there :) )...

You wan to add zones that ONLY contain star levels lower than the one you're bidding. If you keep your minimum star rating at 3*, but add a zone where the highest rated hotel is only 2*, you can't win in that zone since not of the hotels meet your minimum star rating threshold. (technically PRICELINE will 'check' that zone, but none of the hotels will qualify since not meet the star level threshold you chose). See the images in THIS POST which may be able to help you visualize it.

Does the above make it any clearer?

If not post back and we'll break it down further. If so, you're encouraged to confirm your re-bid zones with the board and we'll take it from there.
