juantman Posted October 11, 2004 Report Posted October 11, 2004 (I'm a relative beginer at this so apologies for any stupid questions!)Having trouble winning a bid for the above dates. I really want to stay in the French Quarter and having seen people win with bids of $50 (even when staying over weekends which i know are both busy and expensive) I thought i'd be able to do this-but i've bid as high as $75 and no luck so far. Have i just picked a really busy weekend to visit? Any idea how much higher i'd have to go to win? I know i'm being scabby and would normally have to pay way more for a hotel in the FQ but i'm travelling around the US and Canada for 2 months and thus am on a tight budget!
swag Posted October 11, 2004 Report Posted October 11, 2004 I checked Hotwire for your dates, and the best rate was over $150 for 3 or 3.5 stars. This seems to indicate tight inventory that weekend, but I don't know if it's a busy weekend or just still a bit too far in the future.Good luck.
thereuare Posted October 12, 2004 Report Posted October 12, 2004 Welcome to BetterBidding! My guess would be the Saturday college football game (Army vs. Tulane) and the Sunday football game (Saints vs. Chiefs) is what is creating high demand.I guess the first question would be do you have a back-up reservation? (if so, where and how much?) What star rating were your rejected bids for? If unsucessful in the FQ, are there other zones you would consider or would you sooner lower your star level? juantman Posted October 13, 2004 Author Report Posted October 13, 2004 OK-the football games would explain that. I lowered my star level to 2* and still got rejected. What other areas would you suggest staying in if i'm unsucessful in the FQ?Don't have a backup res yet but i looked on hotwire and it looked like my next cheapest bet-so it would probably be that.
thereuare Posted October 13, 2004 Report Posted October 13, 2004 I believe the CBD (Central Business District) is fairly close to the quarter. Not sure how far the furtherest most point of the CBD is to the FQ.How much is the Hotwire alternative.
