fin1966 Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 Hi,I'm traveling to the Big Island September 27 - October 1 and would like to stay at the Mauna Kea Hotel for our 10th Anniversary. From looking at the hotel list, it looks like I'll be safe bidding for a 4* (and using Hilo as a re-bid zone), and ONLY be able to win that hotel (Mauna Kea is only 4 star listed) - but I'm unsure about how Priceline handles hotels listed as a 'Resort'. Am I at risk of getting one of the resorts in the zone if I bid for a 4*? The wife only wants the Mauna Kea so I don't want to mess it up.Thanks!
thereuare Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! Two ways you could wrong:1) read the comments at the top of the Priceline Hotel List that the lists should not be considered complete and hotels already reported could be upgraded/downgraded at any time2) the star rating you select is the minimum you are willing to accept, so your 4* bid could always be upgraded to a Resort class propertyIf you only are willing to accept the Mauna Kea Hotel you would be better of booking it thru a non-opaque source. If you do decide you are flexible in your plans let us know and we'll continue this thread.Let us know if we can be of further help. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Happy upcoming anniversary. DarrylB Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 Does that mean that resort class properties are considered above 4*?

fin1966 Posted June 12, 2009 Author Report Posted June 12, 2009 I thought if I wanted a 4* I would get a 4*. thanks for clarifying and the Anniversary wishes. Some of the resort hotels listed are not as nice as the Mauna Kea so I will have to see what I can get through Prince resorts or non-opaque site.
