are8 Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 I started at $75 and have gone up $10 every bid with the free rebid zones over the past several days. I was bidding on convention center, dupont, gergetown, and white house all at once. There must be a big convention or something because my bids were not accepted until $175. The actual price on the JW marriott website during this stay was for $2,200. I paid $612 with priceline. Its alot more than people have paid in the past with this hotel, so I dont know what is going on that week in DC to make the priceline threshold so expensive during my dates.
thereuare Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 Congratulations on your success! As i've recently commented in a few other threads, DC is hugely an event driven market... go when there's not too much happening and rates will be very affordable and low... be unfortunate enough to travel during some event (be it political, a rally, convention, large conference, etc) and rates spike rather quickly. While you're correct that this more than we typcially see wins for this in this area, rates at this Marriott aren't typically $2200 for a 3 nite stay either! The higher hotel direct rate usually implies that a higher than usual bid would be needed as well (and in some circumstances no availability at all) Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay.
