katic22 Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 Hi,I am new to this so any help would be much appreciated! My boyfriend and I need a hotel in New York from 2nd September
bignick33 Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 Take a look at HOTWIRE for those dates. There's a 3.5* in Midtown East that appears to be the Millennium U.N. Plaza Hotel for $119 and a 3.5* in Midtown Central that could be the Sheraton Manhattan or the Sheraton New York for $122. I find that you can get better value outside of Time Square but still be within walking distance. As you go east and north, I think you'll also find that the neighborhoods are more charming. The 4* in Central Park Area for $139 that appears to be the Empire Hotel might be the best value/location for someone who has never been to NY. You'd still have easy access to the Times Square/Midtown neighborhoods, but you'll also have exceptionally easy to Central Park during the day, and you'll easily be able to walk up to the Upper West and Upper East sides to explore. You can likely find many of the same hotels for 10% - 20% cheaper on PRICELINE, but you'll lose the ability to guess the hotel before you book.
thereuare Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! Is your $130 max your bid price or your 'all-in' price? (including taxes and fees)If you're maximum bid price i think you can get something fairly nice, even possibly a 4* hotel... if an 'all-in' price it will be a bit more difficult.I think we would want to be as close to Times Square as possible. Also, read our thoughts regarding Hotels Near Times Square... i think you'll find you'll be 'passing thru' a few times during your stay, but after some picture taking wont' really be spending too much extended time there.Let us know regarding your maximum bid amount and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. katic22 Posted June 10, 2009 Author Report Posted June 10, 2009 Hi,Thanks so much for the advice. I was all set with PRICELINE but based on the advice given here I went through HOTWIRE and secured the Millennium UN Plaza at $116 a night. I am so pleased as the reviews are generally very good and it is perfect for us. I used the HOTWIRE links to purchase as requested.THANKS AGAIN!!
AaronJB Posted June 10, 2009 Report Posted June 10, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Fantastic deal for this well-reviewed property. Although views aren't guaranteed with a HOTWIRE reservation, a lot of rooms at this property do appear to have good views - hopefully you'll get a room with a nice view of the surrounding area. What were the amenities showing with this HOTWIRE listing? Can you confirm the star rating?Using the site's HOTWIRE link is greatly appreciated.Enjoy your stay.
