Priceline Hotel: 3* Las Vegas (Strip North) Stratosphere

Hello,

First time in the forum. I am looking for a 5* or 4* hotel in the strip for 4 nights.

My max is around $50 per night - is this reasonable?

First time I tried for $35, and priceline came back with allowing me to rebid for $44 for 3.5* hotel which I declined - was that a good price?

Also am looking for a rental car - can I get a compact for $15 a night?

Pls let me know if my pricing is too aggressive. I thought that since I have time, can give it a few shots.

Thanks!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

$35 is a bit aggressive, imo... but rates are cheap for these dates and ~$50 may succeed for a 4*.

Let us know if you're willing to bid both the North Strip adn South Strip zone and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Do note that in the South Strip zone is the Westin, which although in the South Strip zone, is located slightly off the strip, is this an acceptable outcome?

Thanks for the reply thereuare.

Ideally prefer to be in the strip, and thought both North and South were okay - did not know that even if south strip is selected, I could get something slightly off.....ideally would like to get into a hotel where teh $20 trick will get me a good room (:) have been reading the boards)....but that is all ideal world scenarios...any good 3.5* hotels in the strip (was the Westin the $44 one, I am starting to think...)

Thanks again for helping out.

Based upon your info above it's not really clear... would an off-strip Westin be acceptable?

As well, the "$20 Trick" is hit-or-miss so i wouldn't be formulating a bidding strategy based upon trying to get a hotel where you could use the $20 trick... and you can't target a specific hotel when using PRICELINE anyway (use HOTWIRE if trying to target/avoid a specific property) so i'm not sure if using PRICELINE is appropriate for your objective.

I'd sooner concentrate on getting the best hotel you can for your budget and needs (so if an off-strip location is not desirable then don't use PRICELINE and use HOTWIRE where you can often take an educated guess beforehand as to the property you will likely receive and thus 'know' it's location). Once you receive a hotel, then you can start researching the different room types at the property and if using the $20 trick would be worth the expense for the possible room upgrade.

To complete the trip summary.

I bid for $25 per night on 3* hotels on north and south strip, and it was accepted - Stratosphere Tower (total of $120 for 4 nights incl. taxes). I see that the retail priceline price was $38.

Was this an okay deal or a really good deal?

I see from reviews that it is at the north end of the strip - hopefully walking from there to the centre of the strip is safe at odd hours in the night.

Thanks!

Congratulations on your success!

Thank you for sharing your results with the board. Given the already super-low retail price, the bid was a very nice discount in % terms, and I doubt it would have been accepted much lower.

It's far enough that you wouldn't want to walk it, especially at nite (and i'd question the safety aspect)

There is a trolly bus (i forget the cost but it's comprable to the bus i'm going to talk about) that goes from the Stratosphere to the strip, but i don't recommend it as it stops at all the hotels and it takes forever to pull into all the casino parking lots and pull up to the entrance. Most economical way to travel from here to the Strip and back is via the CAT (public las veags bus) which i think is ~$2.25 per trip... there is a PRICELINE EXPRESS also that will save you a lot of time if you're heading way down to the Southern end of the strip.

Thanks thereuare for responding. Since I will be booking a rental car as well (plan to visit the grand canyon, Hoover dam, etc., as well), I guess I could park at some casino near the center of the strip (assuming parking is free)..,

Thanks!
