2 rooms for a family of 5 at a 3.5* hotel in San Juan for the nights of July 5 & 6, 2009. I would like advice on what my max bid could be

I am sorry if I am doing this wrong. While the questions are for the same stay, they are for different bidding sites.

My first posting is a Priceline question.

My second posting is a Hotwire question.

One room is for the parents. The other room is for our children ages 18, 16 & 13.

The HOTWIRE property above is a match for the Radisson Ambassador Plaza Hotel and Casino San Juan so that would be our best guess for that one.

Thanks for that information. Hotwire has that for $102/night, and Radisson's best price is only $116/night. Not really a huge savings.

I would like to explore bidding for rooms at a 3.5* hotel on PRICELINE. Could you give me advice on that?

What i believe is the Caribe Hilton was available for $115/nite... would that be of any interest to you?

If you bid on PRICELINE you need to be aware that they only guarantees double occupancy, so both rooms could only have one bed in it... you can request a room with two beds but there is no guarnatee that the hotel will be able, or willing, to accomodate your request. Although not the ideal situation, would this be an acceptable risk?

I don't see $115/night there now. What star rating is it? I went to the Caribe Hilton's website. They have an additional 14% resort fee posted there. I've seen that fee posted on some of the other Resorts on Hotwire. It would depend on the final price, but the hotel looks nice.

I did just get a Hotwire email update telling me that a 4* hotel has dropped from $115 to $97. But, that is in the Rio Grande - Humacao area, not San Juan. I'm not very familiar with Puerto Rico. Do you know anything about this area? What about the hotel?

What is the purpose of this stay... 90%+ of our users stay in San Juan. Are you looking for a resort to go to and not leave the grounds or are you looking to explore San Juan?

If you search HOTWIRE for 2rooms/3adults/2children do you see a 4* San Juan hotel offered for ~$115 with Beachfront, Restaurant, Pool, Business, Tennis, Spa?

Returning from a cruise on the morning for July 5. Will be flying out very early morning on July 7. Not interested in a resort. Want to explore San Juan.

Yes. I see a 4* for $112/night. But, it also says in the fine print "This hotel typically charges all guests a resort fee regardless of how the room is booked. The fee is about 15% of your room rate, and they collect it directly from you, so it won't show in your Hotwire

Have you thougth about just booking the Sheraton Old San Juan directly with the hotel for $149/nite? While this may be a little more than your budget, if your intention is to stay in and explore Old San Juan, this will put you right in the city and able to walk juat about anywhere (in Old San Juan) which will save money on taking taxis to/from your hotel... essentially making your total cost less than if you stayed outside of OSJ and needed to take taxis.

That is a little more than expected. And the second room with 3 in it will be $169. So, based on the prices we could get in Old San Juan vs. the $115/ night for a 4* hotel, we've decided to go back to that. (Sorry about the waffling.)

The current Hotwire listing appears to be different than before. It does not list "Resort" in the amenities, but it does have the additional 15% resort fee in the fine print. Can you tell which Hotwire 4* this one is?
