RDC Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 Hello,I'm looking for a 3.5* or 4* hotel in MTW, MTE or MTC for approx. $160 taxes included for dates 10/04/09 -10/10/09. Is this a reasonable budget? The best I can find on Hotwire is a 3.5* hotel in MTE for $163 without taxes. From the amenities list (fitness center, high speed internet, business center, restaurant) I gauge that this either for the Tudor Hotel at the UN or Double Tree Hilton is that correct?I am new to this, so please forgive my ignorance. I'd be very grateful for any help you could offer.Thanks. :)
AaronJB Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)October is usually a rather expensive month for NYC (although it's usually pleasant weather-wise) and prices seem a bit on the high side for these dates. The 3.5* MTE is likely the Tudor. Given the $289 rate I'm seeing at the Tudor on Orbitz, this would be a very nice discount off the regular rate. However, if you aren't interested in the Tudor, you could use PRICELINE and very likely get a better price on a comparable hotel than what HOTWIRE is offering, but you would have to be willing to be more flexible on which hotel you ended up at.If you are interested in trying PRICELINE, let us know and we would be happy to suggest a bidding strategy.
RDC Posted June 8, 2009 Author Report Posted June 8, 2009 Thank you so much for your reply. I would love you to suggest a bidding strategy for Priceline.I had a quick look at the hotels available in the MTE area on Priceline. All the 3.5* hotels look pretty good. I'll be guided by you as to the best price to start bidding at.Best Wishes,Ryan
thereuare Posted June 8, 2009 Report Posted June 8, 2009 I had a quick look at the hotels available in the MTE area on PRICELINE. All the 3.5* hotels look pretty good.To clarify, are you only interested in bidding the MTE zone or are you also interested in the MTW, CPS, and Times Square zones? (the equivalent of the HOTWIRE zones you originally mentioned above)Also, keep in mind that when you select 3.5*, that is the minimum that you are willing to accept, so you should not only feel comfortable with the previously reported 3.5* hotels, but the 4* and higher hotels as well (also knowing that you could receive a new hotel not yet reported to the board)Let us know which zones you'd like to include in your bidding and we'll advise accordingly (with a maximum bid of ~$135, which would equate to about $160 'all-in' rate with taxes and fees, this is your maximum bid, correct?)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. RDC Posted June 11, 2009 Author Report Posted June 11, 2009 Hi!I guess I am only interested in bidding for the MTE, CPS & Times Square zones. Thank you, I do realise that we may win a 4* hotel, if we set the minimum to 3.5- but I guess this only means a better hotel right?!I think a maximum bid of $120 is what we'll start with, and maybe take it from there...I look forward to hearing your advice re. a bidding strategy. Thanks heaps! :)
thereuare Posted June 11, 2009 Report Posted June 11, 2009 At the 3.5* level you have THREE re-bid zones.
