Car rental help in California

Hello

We are new to car rental and Better Bidding and Priceline, having only used this site to book hotels previously. We would like to rent a car to travel from San Francisco to Las Vegas (5 December 2009 - 18 December 2009). Could I please ask:

* We are not from the US and as such have no credit card or own car insurance that will cover the various insurance and waivers that seem to be required. Our travel insurance only provides for car rental excess cover. Does Priceline or Hotwire offer insurance as an extra and what do we require in California? Does the insurance costs negate the savings on Priceline or Hotwire making it better to go directly to the car rental company?

* Does Priceline or Hotwire offer one-way rentals?

* Is it better to wait until closer to December 09 to bid for the best deals?

PRICELINE only offers one-way rentals between a select number of city pairs, but this happens to be one of them! You need to do a 'regular' PRICELINE search, then when given the grid of offerings, click the "Name Your Own Price" link at the top left corner of the grid.

PRICELINE and HOTWIRE don't offer insurnce, but it's an "add-on" that you would purchase directly from the car rental company at the time of rental... or there may be a few companies local to you that offer car insurance for traveling in the states for one fee that would cover any rentals you make in a given period of time (ususally weekly, monthly, or annually)

It's never too early to begin bidding as long as you make sure you don't overbid... what is the best rate you're able to get thru conventional booking channles for this one way rental? (use our Car Rental Checker to assist in your rate search) Let us know the per day rate (before fees and taxes) as well as the "all-in" total including fees and taxes.
