Dave in the 'Burbs Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 I'm looking to stay in a 4* in the Downtown/Town Lake region of Austin, TX, from 6/18 -6/21. Between Hotwire and Priceline, this seems to include the Omni, Hilton, Intercontinental/SFA, Driskill, and Hyatt Regency. All of those would be great, except the Hyatt Regency, which is south of the river. It's not a deal breaker, but I'd really like to be in downtown. Is there any way to try to avoid the Hyatt Regency, possibly by bidding a little higher? Or is it totally impossible? Hotwire currently lists on 4* for $96 per night during that time, with fitness, pool, restaurant, business center and high-speed internet -- any way to ID that? Thanks in advance...-Dave
AaronJB Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)Bidding higher can mean you simply overbid for the hotel you could have gotten cheaper. PRICELINE is a great way to get a deal, but it's not something I'd recommend when one is trying to avoid a hotel. The list of reported HOTWIRE hotels for Texas can be found here: Hotwire Hotel List. Please ask if you have any questions, and please do use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE link when you start your purchase.
thereuare Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 Searching HOTWIRE for your dates those amenities match the Hilton, Hyatt, and Omni... so any of those properties are possibilities.Changing your search to 2adults/2children the price and amenities stay the same, but the offering then shows a Tripadvisor rating of 4.0/5.0 with 100+ reviews, and this is a match for the Hyatt. Given the same price and amenities as when searching for 2adults/0chidlren, i'm going to speculate that this is the same property as when searchign for 2adults/0children, which would make the Hyatt our best guess out of the three (although no guarantees).I think the question to ask is how high you'd be willing to bid so that if you received the Hyatt, you'd still be happy with the results and feel you received a good deal?Let us know your thoughts and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Dave in the 'Burbs Posted May 29, 2009 Author Report Posted May 29, 2009 Thanks to both of you for the insights. Based on this, I'm going to go the PRICELINE route (through your link), and see what happens. I'll post the results when I'm done.
thereuare Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 Good luck, if you'd like help with a bidding strategy feel free to ask. Thanks in advance for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board for your purchase. Dave in the 'Burbs Posted May 29, 2009 Author Report Posted May 29, 2009 Wound up with the Hyatt Regency for $85 (6/18-6/21) on the first bid, using the PRICELINE link. It wasn't what I was shooting for, but it's a good hotel and the price is right. It'll give me a chance to get some exercise when walking over to downtown, anyway. Thanks again for the help!
thereuare Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 While this is the hotel you were hoping to avoid, at least you knew it was a possibility and were prepared, and hopefully kept your bids low enough so that if you did receive this property, you'd still consider it to be a good deal.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICLINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay.
