hiflyer Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 I am looking to bid successfully on a 4* Hotel in NY Time Square for Dec 28 - Jan 3rd. I bid $160/night and then $170/night and then $180/night. All within 10 minutes and it allowed me to do so. Before I continue to bid up I was wondering if anyone had any tips or experience bidding NY hotels during this time. Will the prices for hotels continue to rise on HOTWIRE and PRICELINE right up until my travel dates?
thereuare Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! This will likely be a difficult, and if successful, expensive bid... hotels in this area will likely (correctly so) believe that they will be able to sell most of their rooms themselves at full price, and therefore will give little or no deeply discounted inventory to the opaque suppliers. The days leading up to, and immediately after, New Years Eve are usually much cheaper than NYE itself, so you may want to consider SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, and if you're able to do so, change your dates so if you split your bid you have the 'expensive' dates either at the beginning or end of your stay, not in the middle (which makes splitting more difficult)Lastly, you'll also likely have more success by expanding your zones beyond the immediate Times Square area and including other nearby zones. If you're bidding Times Square because you think you'll have a view of the ball dropping from your room, i wouldn't count on it since the Times Square zone is much larger than Times Square itself and many hotels are up on Eighth Avenue and not all hotel rooms, even those in Times Square, face the area where the ball drops. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. hiflyer Posted May 28, 2009 Author Report Posted May 28, 2009 I Used the links on this website and widened the geographic area to include, Midtown West, Midtown East, Time Square, and Central Park South, my bid of $230 got denied! Obviously an expensive time to travel.
thereuare Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 It's not really that this is an expensive time of year, quite the contrary, but that just one or two nites of this stay are very expensive. If youre not willing to split your bid, HOTWIRE has what is believed to be Morgans for $255/nite which gets excellent reviews. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated as to your progress of if we can be of any help along the way. AaronJB Posted May 28, 2009 Report Posted May 28, 2009 Orbitz.com has the Morgans Hotel for $222.50. Plus - although I'd check the fine print - this would appear to be a refundable reservation (aside from the cancel fee from Orbitz, which I think is $25.)Please use the site's Orbitz.com link if this is of interest.
hiflyer Posted June 1, 2009 Author Report Posted June 1, 2009 I booked Morgans on Orbitz through the Link on this website. I can cancell for $25 if something better comes available on PRICELINE or HOTWIRE. Thanks to everyone for their help.
