torinsmom Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 I am planning a trip to DC with my teenage son. The dates are 6/15-6/17. I am hoping for a 3* in the Convention Center/Capitol Hill area. I am hoping for the Residence Inn. Is there a way to increase chances of getting that one? There are a lot of 3*s in that area.I also was looking at 2.5* On your list, the only hotel in that * category is Capitol Hill Suites. WOuld that mean I have a better chance of getting that one?Marsha
thereuare Posted May 27, 2009 Report Posted May 27, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! There is no way to target a specific property when bidding on PRICELINE. If you're trying to target, or avoid, a particular hotel HOTWIRE may be a better option as you can often take an educated guess as to what property you may received before your purchase based upon the amenities that are associated with it.When you select a star level with PRICELINE it is the minimum that you are willing to accept, so by bidding at the 2.5* level you're not just bidding on the Capitol Hill Suites, but also all hotels at the 3*, 3.5*, etc as well. Also, as per the comments at the top of the Priceline Hotel List, the lists are only hotels that have been reported to the board, so there could certainly be other 2.5* properties out there which are currently 'unknown'.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. twinkie Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 Hi... I am also really wanting to book the Residence Inn Capitol Hill. I tried Hotwire as was recommended but only two hotels were offered in the Capitol Hill area and their amenities and star ratings didn't match this hotel. I actually don't see where anyone has booked this hotel through Hotwire. Can you guide me in making a bid that would improve my chances in Hotwire or Priceline? My travel dates are 06/30/09 thru 07/07/09. I'm willing to pay whatever is the suggested bid price. Alternatively, I would like a very similar hotel that is within same area... walking distance of the mall and museums, has an indoor pool, continental breakfast, light dinner fare, and suite style rooms. :)
torinsmom Posted May 30, 2009 Author Report Posted May 30, 2009 Still trying to place a winning bid. I upped my bid to $100/night, but still a no go for Convention Center/Capitol Hill and White House. Have also tried up to $80/night for Arlington or Alexandria 3*. I can get a hotel with good reviews in Alexandria for $90, so I may just go that way if things don't change. Does it ever get easier to get a hotel for a better price as dates draw closer? I am only 2 weeks out right now.

I can't find where I found it for $90 now, but it is $99 on the hotel website. It has mixed reviews.Do you know much about DC areas? I don't know zones to add to stay in a more safe area. Is there somewhere to find that kind of information/review about certain zones vs, hotels? Thanks
torinsmom Posted May 31, 2009 Author Report Posted May 31, 2009 Okay, finally got a bid accepted by adding Dupont Circle and Foggy Bottom to my selected zones and choosing 2.5* or better. Got the 3.5* Washington Marriott Wardman Park for $95/night, it has a metro station right outside :) $37/day to park(OUCH!) but sounds like a pretty decent hotel. Oh, changed my nights from 3 to 2 nights, so now 6/15-6/17. I figure we can park in a lot for 6/17 and tour all day, then either drive home to NC or get a cheap hotel further into VA.Used the PRICELINE link here. Thanks for all your help!Marsha
thereuare Posted May 31, 2009 Report Posted May 31, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Hope you're happy with the results... sounds as if this property should work well for your needs, with the metro station right by this hotel.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICLINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay. torinsmom Posted June 19, 2009 Author Report Posted June 19, 2009 Just got back and the Marriott Wardman Park was perfect for our needs! It is literally steps away from the Woodley Park Metro elevator and right across the street from the main entrance(escalators). The grounds and hotel are beautiful! There is also a CVS, McD's and italian pizzeria across the street, among other things. Our room was on the 7th floor and had a view of the Washington Monument. We did not have single problem and really enjoyed our stay. Parking was to be $32/night, but we just parked at the Ballston Mall in Arlington($8/day) and metroed in. Internet was $12.95(why do the more expensive hotels charge for this?) so we passed on that. The hotel was several blocks from the zoo, which we really enjoyed. All in all, it was a great deal, and I only wished we had booked another night when we had the chance, so we wouldn't have had to pack and move.Marsha
