Slightly disappointed to find out there will be no pool. We wanted to end our holiday in San Diego for chilling out at the famous beaches/pool rather than for sight seeing (although there will be some of that). I had planned on staying in the coastal (inc la Jolla) or Mission Bay or Coronado areas at 4*. I was unsuccessful on my dates upto $147.50 for Coronado areas. Also unsuccessful at North County Coastal & San Diego Coastal upto $102.50 for those dates. I figured I would get the Westgate if bidding on the downtown area and the price would be lower than the above areas. Overall I felt that staying in the other areas isnt worth the extra money and we should be able to get public transport (light rail then a bus) to some of the nice beaches. We are ditching our rental car in San Diego because like SFO/LA the parking is extortionate everywhere and we need to save a few $$$. In the evening there will be lots of nice restaurants in Downtown/harbour island area and we can go back to an old-school luxury hotel with proper service (from what I can tell in the reviews). It will be interesting to compare it to the service in the 5* hotels in Vegas as I get the impression that the Westgate service will be better. Anyway, thanks to all who posted their prices to help us make the informed decision.
