tpuppie Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 My family (2 adults, 3 kids) would like to stay one night in Chicago on our way home from vacation. We plan on hitting the Harry Potter exhibit at the Science & Industry Museum and just walking around Michigan Ave.Hotwire says there is a 3.5* hotel for $109 with the following amenities: suite, breakfast, fitness center, pool, restaurant, business center, internet. Is there a good chance this is the Embassy Suites? I feel like that would be a decent deal, even with the $39 parking, rather than taking a chance on a lower rate on Priceline. At least we'd get breakfast and a bit more space.TIA.Therese
AaronJB Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 Good morning. Please follow-up on what you did for your previous trip in this thread: Hotwire ChicagoPlease post what you ultimately decided to do in that thread (post in that thread, not this one), then we will take a look at this listing for 6/27. Thank you.
tpuppie Posted May 24, 2009 Author Report Posted May 24, 2009 My sincere apologies for not posting our change of plans on the previous thread. This time we are definitely going.TIA
thereuare Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 The above is a match for the Embassy Suites Chicago Downtown Lakefront so that would be my best guess. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. tpuppie Posted May 29, 2009 Author Report Posted May 29, 2009 Got the Embassy Suites. Booked it through the HOTWIRE link. With taxes and fees it was $138. Can't wait! Thanks for your help.
AaronJB Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 There are several other lots in the area around this hotel; I'm guessing you can find at least a slightly better rate than $39 (if that's what the hotel is charging) nearby
thereuare Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see you received the hotel you were hoping for and are happy with the results!Thank you for sharing your results with the board and using our HOTWIRE link to begin your purchase.Enjoy your stay. tpuppie Posted May 29, 2009 Author Report Posted May 29, 2009 Aaron, I noticed you mentioned the lot on Kinzie in another thread. I may try that. Or not, depending on how things shake down. I might be dropping my husband and sons off at the Harry Potter exhibit on my way downtown and might not want to have to walk by myself with my 3 year old and all our luggage to the hotel, which looks to be several blocks away. But I'll scope out the few blocks around the hotel too, just in case I can do better than the $39 parking at the hotel.
AaronJB Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 On a nice day, the walk from that lot on Kinzie wouldn't be too bad (although it would definitely be a walk.) I've never parked there (since I don't drive), but that lot's low rates (which may have gone up again recently - I'd call to see what their current rates are) have made it popular. Also, this hotel is right down the street from Fox and Obel Cafe and Market (Fox-obel.com), which I would VERY highly recommend. That's on the corner of McClurg and Illinois. This hotel provides breakfast, but Fox and Obel would be great if you're looking for a quick nearby lunch or dinner. Their gourmet market is also fun to browse around.
tpuppie Posted May 30, 2009 Author Report Posted May 30, 2009 Thanks. We'll definitely check out those recommendations. Fox and Obel sounds perfect!
tpuppie Posted August 30, 2009 Author Report Posted August 30, 2009 Just wanted to recap our stay at Embassy Suites. It worked out very well. We had plenty of room for our family of 6 (one in a portacrib). My son was turned off by the cherry-scented room spray that pervaded and I can't say I'm blame him, but we were hardly in the room anyway. The breakfast was adequate (Residence Inn one is better) and the manager's special was a joke with a long line for the free drink and a bowl of snack mix. But the price and location were perfect, so who cares about those details.Did stop by Fox and Obel and got some good eats for a quick dinner in the room. (Though those are some pricey pb&js--ha ha!)Thanks for the help with the bid!Therese
AaronJB Posted August 30, 2009 Report Posted August 30, 2009 Glad to hear that you had a nice stay at this property - it's a really nice area :)
